May Bank Holiday Sould Be Cancelled

On 7/7 my cousin who works in the city had been travelling to work when the bombs went off. Luckily she was uninjured but she was caught up in it and ended up helping a girl who had been on one of the tubes but was uninjured. She walked with this girl back to the girl's flat, made sure she was OK and made her a cup of tea etc. (in fact they are still in contact to this day).Gingerdad - don't you feel a little hard done by - all these people getting paid for a day off and you having to go to work.
Either they shouldn't get paid, or you should get an extra day's pay to compensate!
Obviously this shook my cousin up and she didn't make it to work that day, and neither did many others. She ended up getting a lift on the back of her brother's push bike all the way home. (9-10 miles).
However the next day, when the transport system was still in chaos, my cousin was absolutely terrified, and couldn't face public transport (not that it was open in the main part). She was going to set off on foot, but her mother convinced her to work from home instead.
She decided to work from home, but when she opened her laptop she had an email stating that unless people had already been scheduled to work from home, they were to be in the office or else the day would be taken as annual leave.
Sometimes I think there needs to be some leeway when there are exceptionable circumstances. I am not sure yesterday counted as exceptional for a lot of people but certainly 7/7 was.0 -

Should have tried harder at school.

It would be if the person involved had actually signed a contract 6 months in to the job!0 -

Southerners are just plain soft.

No fair! It's not our fault our public services infrastructure is a crock of poo. It's not like we're standing out in the cold whimpering about how the snow's too bright for us to go to work - most of us tried, but other than walking 5 miles with some skis on, there weren't many options available.0 -
I'm a northerner who lives in the south and I can honestly say I think southerners work harder and don't moan so much!Thought processes can be managed positively, so that they help you to achieve what you want, rather than hindering your judgement.0

It was just a normal day for me yesterday with all the normal (insert naughty word) that usually happens.
Yes we did have snow.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
It was a normal day for me - made it 13 miles to Dartford, began my working day, then at lunch time the school decide to close!!!!
I had to come home early because someone couldn't make a decision at 7am like the rest of the county. Had my school been closed to start I would've had a babysitter, at 12noon I didn't and had to make a decision to keep phoning round or begin what I knew would be long trip home to make it in time.
I offered to take it as half a days leave - the right thing to do IMO x x0 -
i can't go to work again tomorrow, as it's still shut. my son is off school still, so I will be trying to work from home at the same time as entertaining him. Found all this out after having spent 3 hours digging the ice off our road, so that me and the neighbours could all get out, typical! Have to say though i have friends and relatives up north and am convinced that southerners take far less sick days, so let us have this one week in two decades!
Oh and talking about skiving, the strikes over foriegn workers is where people really are skiving, I mean get on with the job prove you are the most productive team member and you'll always be employed, whether you are british or not. Stand out on a picket line all day whilst the EU workers are inside working hard and not creating a scene and I know who'd I'd rather employ!Riding out the receession.........0 -

So, maybe you should give up your May bank holiday and work in the place of one of those people who had a day off due to the snow
No need to cover for me though - I got to work despite the snow and carried on as usual.
As we have to record all hours worked with my current employer, I know that I have worked nearly 200 hours more than required by my contract over the past 12 months, so to be honest I wouldn't have felt too guilty if I hadn't been able to make it in.
My kids were off school yesterday which was great. They probably got a lot more from a day running around in the snow than they would have done at school.0
