May Bank Holiday Sould Be Cancelled

I couldn't go to work yesterday. I have my own company so I didn't get paid. It was impossible for me to get to work, and I am sure it was impossible for many.
Having said that, anyone who had the day off, where someone else had to pay for them to have the day off (eg, tax payer, small business owners, shareholders etc) should take the day as annual leave, or should have offered not to get paid. Why should someone else foot someone's bill for a day off in the snow?
I would have said completely differently a few years ago when I worked FOR another company, but since running my own business, I can see why people get angry when money is coming out of their own pockets to service someone else.
Come to think of it, I don't think any holidays should be paid for, and I don't think employees should do a minute overtime without getting paid for it, either. Works both ways.Thought processes can be managed positively, so that they help you to achieve what you want, rather than hindering your judgement.0 -

Why start the thread.... Do as I say not as I do.
I came in to this world with nothing and I've still got most of it left. :rolleyes:0 -

Although I do think annual leave is pretty important, because otherwise productivity goes down. We have to take ours every 4 months (rather than every year) so we have to at least have one holiday every 4 months (ie we can't store it up). I am pretty sure we would all go mad otherwise!
Saying that though I work "overtime" on an almost daily basis without any extra payment whatsoever so I give and take!0 -
What snow, we didn't get any so work as normal for me......The futures bright the future is Ginger0

If you happen to be scheduled to work, for double pay, on a bank holiday and you do not go to work because it snows should you still get double time pay.
What about if you were a road gritter and this happoened to you?...............................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -

But what about people who get shafted to work bank holidays and don't get paid extra for it!0 -
Gingerdad - don't you feel a little hard done by - all these people getting paid for a day off and you having to go to work.
Either they shouldn't get paid, or you should get an extra day's pay to compensate!:beer:Thought processes can be managed positively, so that they help you to achieve what you want, rather than hindering your judgement.0 -

Who nicked the little, bold 'h', And is it catcing?
It's ridiculous.
We had a lot of snow when I was a kid and I do not recall taking the day off school because of it nor the school being closed or my parents not going to work.
Southerners are just plain soft.

That'll be part of their terms and conditions of employment.
Should have tried harder at school.
