Aye, but silver oxidises unless properly treated, gold doesn't - so to that extent there is a reason for using gold on connectors rather than silver.
Not a major concern in a lot of areas but for something where a clean connection is important the gold plating is less likely to get get worse over time when just sat there (IIRC that's the reason they use it on computer cards/memory and why it's often called for in the standards for such parts).
Of course in most situations it's marketing*, but there can be a reason for it.
*No reason for it on say aerial flyleads where the chances are the connector at the other end of the main cable is ancient and corroded.0 -

As I understand it, oxidised silver has the exact same electrical properties as unoxidised silver (Meaning it wont make a jot of difference):idea:0 -
I don't think Silver Sulphide (the main component of tarnished silver) conducts electricity as well as pure Silver. Whether it makes an appreciable difference is another matter.0

Pass, I read his catalogues which I get delivered
(May or may not be on his site. To be honest, im not arsed enough to go looking)
Sorry Marty
And yes, me too
Did he find people could tell the difference in an ABX test, or just that there was a difference, electrically speaking?
The first would show that something might work better, the second wouldn't.0 -
Now how can you say that for absolute certain Marty?
Well, all we could say is that it's possible the picture looks different if there's a difference in the mains lead. In that case, it would be entirely possible that the picture could look worse.
It's a bit of a leap to say that if the mains lead has different electrical properties than the old one, the picture will be better.
The easiest way to see if it actually looks different is to look at it, and the best way to prove that it does is to get several people to look at it in an ABX test.
However ABX testing is something those who sell A/V esoterica are loath to do, and those of us who are of a slightly more cynical disposition would say that there's a very good reason they don't want their products tested in such a fashion. No one's going to buy a product if it's proven not to work.
Whatever mains cable someone wants to use is no skin off my noise though.0
