Dyson hose help please

I've had five Dyson's in 7 years. There's been nothing wrong with them,my daughters just keep taking them away when they leave home. They're all still working.
I think they're the best vacumn I've ever used and I've went through a few I can tell you.
Just wondering what's the best way to clean the cyclone to get rid of the dust on the inside.I can never seem to get it realy clean and a bit afraid I might damage it.Can it be washed?.Thanks.0 -
officially, I doubt it.
Unofficially, take it off and remove the lower clear bin, take it outside, stick a hosepipe in the pointy bit and let it fill. Upend and drain it. Repeat several times - it's a dirty job. Bung hose in all orifices, until water comes out clear.
Then give it a good shake to get the droplets out, and stand it up to dry for a while. I tend to leave for an hour.
As I say, that's probably not an approved method, but it works very well. The suction after is "as new" - my mum was amazed.0 -
It can be washed. I used mine to clean up after some building work and it got really bad. Washed the filters and cyclone = good as new. It is important and difficult to dry the parts, I left on a radiator overnight.
Best vacuum cleaner ever.
Bought one of their washing machines too. Unfortunately they do not make them anymore.

This 'no suction' thing has happened to my Dyson several times...I take the thing apart from top to bottom....sometimes there is a blockage and it is easily cleared...others there is nothing of significance and once I put it all back together again it works ok!0

Very poor comment.

dyson
Stupid question
Have you tryed dysons web site www.dyson.co.uk
you will get all the answers there on how to clean etc.
there tech support is also very good.
Also empty the cylinder and look up inside it and see if you can see all the little tubes that form the cyclone, if you cant this could be part of the problem.
A new cylinder will be needed if this is the case.
Also check the gaskets for air leaks.
Hope this helps NiallSpending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0 -
Hi all
Many, many thanks to all you lovely MSErs who bothered to reply to my plea with posts & PM's - very much appreciated:D I used a combination of replies & viewed the You Tube vids, I then finally managed to removed the bottom of the pipe - to discover a PENCIL wedged firmly in there  And not a small one either - a full-size job!!! Of course this had caused all the rest of the stuff to pile up behind it & blocked the pipe completely, hence no suction.
For the first time in 3 months I mananged to vac the stairs carpet - & we have 2 flights of stairs, took me 10 mins - instead of 30 mins with a rubber brush & lots of aggro. Pats on the back for all tips everyone:T I am sure all the other ones will come in useful too.New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0 -
Had the same problem with my dyson the other day. I`ve had it over 10 years and it`s still going strong. Mine had a thick wad of dust blocking the suction. After taking the hose outside and banging it on the path a few times out it came. Now it`s good as new!0
