Dyson hose help please

Hi all

I have a deadly Dyson, the bane of DH's life especially when the belt breaks.... Now however I have a new problem, there is no suction to the hose so I can't vac the stairs & haven't been able to for some time  I have to use a rubber brush thingy to get the hairs off (we have 4 long-haired animals) but of course it doesn't clean the bits off. I've tried the usual & there doesn't seem to be any obstruction in the pipe, just no suction!!

Any ideas please peeps? Would fitting a new hose help or does the problem lie elsewhere do you think? Any help gratefully received. BTW it picks up OK in normal mode...it's an old DC04 ..

Hi it's a while since i had a dyson, but have you checked the filters on it i had the ones you needed to replace, also any blockage in the pipe.Cant even remember which model mine was but there was abit on the top that had a little cover over it that used to block every now and again.Hope you get it sorted soon ,nothing worse than a hoover that wont pick up.If this doesnt help dyson have a website that tells you about problems and how to fix them good luck

I phoned Dyson, and they went thru step-by-step to solve the problem. There seems to be no "expiry date" to the helpline, I bought mine in 1996

    Hi,
I recently had a similar issue, NO suction at all. I thought I had checked everything, darn well nearly too the whole thing apart, cleaned the filters, checked the hose, everything you're meant to do....

Ended up taking it to a local repairs place who found a massive blockage in the pipe (god knows how I didn't see it!) and I ended up paying £17....but at least it got serviced while it was there so not all bad as it was second hand anyway. Now, seems like I've got a brand new Dyson it's so good!

So...make sure there are no blockages, I know it sounds stupid but I could've sworn mine didn't have any but I was wrong - you should've seen the size of the thing they pulled out!!

    Hope that helps!

I've just been given a DC07 by my brother who hates it...he's mullered the hose. Looks to be about 11 quid though. I gave it the same "service" I give to mums DC07 and my Dyson "stowaway" - pre and post filters out, washed and dried, air comressor to shift any dust, removeable pipes washed and dried, and the cyclone itself flushed repeatedly with a hosepipe until it runs clear...

Can't believe the amount of crud that builds up inside the cyclone body itself! I've also got an original DC01 knocking about..I think it's in the loft. Good kit.
  • Check the hose for a split... after time they tear. You can buy new hoses but are quite costly. I gave up with Dyson and got a Henry for that very reason

Just brake it down to bits from the top working down, cleaning / checking each part as you re-assemble
  • Mine had just done that too..... I didn't think there was anything in the pipe, but there was another section at the bottom which unclipped and there was some fluff in there, I also cleaned out the filter as well and that was full of hair!

    Good luck xx
