Purchase an item from the US and now have a customs charge

There was no mention in the listing of there being customs charges upon delivery so I emailed the seller and photographed the customs charges label as they requested and they reimbursed me. Usually if a customs label is marked as 'gift' charges are not incurred. Maybe I just had a nice seller but worth a try asking for a reimbursement.
Never in a month of sundays should you be reimbursed or even have the gumption to ask in the first place.0 -

I think the fact that people have asked in the past and even left poor feedback when they get a no (which is the reply they would get from me!) is why ebay.com bought in the changes to the feedback rules mentioned by Steve above.
I've never yet had anyone ask me to reimburse them, I think my answer though would be short and to the point.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This is something you should always be aware of when you purchase things outside the EU.:rotfl:0

Similarly no problems with International buyers, which is surprising. Though our .com/au have warning on duties so if they did it would be a quick 'as per the listing.....ctrl+v & ctrl+c.....'.0

i remember someone linking to an ebay seller doing digital SLR's who paid any dutys if people were caught
im guessing they sent them all as gifts and keyed the % caught into the business model0 -
Another thing you have to make sure of is that the seller declares the price you actually paid and not their idea of what the item is worth. I bought a camera from the US for a cheap price and had it insured. The seller declared the value as the maximum covered by the insurance instead of the much lower price I'd actually paid. I had to do a bit of grovelling with customs but they refunded the difference in the end!0

I have bought two items from an American seller. One is over the £18 vat limit the other is under.
Do I have them posted together or separately or are their other options?

surely if you have them posted seperately, and get charged for both, you'd have 2 lots of admin fees to pay, didn't someone say that was about £8?0
