It was my sons and his dads car but his dad only used it at for shopping Saturday mornings.

Technically your son is the main driver then and it would be classed as fronting. But I wouldn't worry about it, would imagine due to the increase of accidents with the heavy snow its just luck of the draw that it happened when your son was driving and not his father... ;)

Know some people will say I've been morally incorrect (or similar) by saying that but doubt any of you are :A

Would suggest he tries getting his own insurance as will probably be alot cheaper than expected.

Anyone can add a named driver to be the main driver of a car. That isn't fronting.

Fronting is not declaring the named driver to be the main driver.

I think that was the original question - was he named as the main driver?

Agree with the skid lessons/Pass Plus etc etc. Very hard to write off another car at 15mph unless it is worth nothing and was already falling apart.

Someone's son might be a little economical with the truth. Might calm him down to be on public transport for a bit!

    Why?

As previously posted, there is nothing wrong in anyone having a named driver as the main driver!

Think people are getting the term policy holder and main driver mixed up.

The policy holder does not need to be the main driver as any named driver can be that, but the policy holder can not be the main driver if they are not.

And by the sound of it her son is the main driver. If his father is the policy holder and main driver then this is fronting, but until it is confirmed then suppose I'd better stay quiet.

Does the father have another car available to him? If so, then the insurers are likely to see it as a case of fronting.

If the son is the main driver, then no matter how many cars the father has, this is not fronting!

Of course. So long as they have advised the insurers that the son is the main driver. But given that it was only around £700 for a 17yo boy, I'd be surprised.

The total premium quoted is £2100, (which sounds ok), so where do you get that £700 from?

With a premium in the thousands it's more than likely that the policy has been rated on the youngest driver so it's unlikely that fronting is an issue here.

I know plenty of teens who have policies around the £700-£1000 mark.

Anyway this took this years renewal up by about £1500 £2110 in total which I think was quite good with Quinns.
