i'm led to believe the same as you, that all swales switches at the same time, and at the same time each day in general.
i'm getting the 7 hours as it switches at 0730 back to rate 1.
as for bills, i couldn't tell you as i moved last monday froma gas/elec to this all elec.

but with a geeky wireless monitor thing (and confirming with meter readings and tariff tables - cos i'm scared i'm going to have HUGE bills), i can see i'm using around £3.50-£4 per day with general stuff on in evening, computer on all day (working from home), 8kw of (untimerable) storage heaters on about 1/2 input for 7 hours overnight and 3kw immersion on for 2 hours overnight. By my rough reckoning it should be around £65-£70pm dd.

so, SWALEC told me this morn that winter off peak was 11:30pm until 6:30pm but your swalec meter switches over from 12:30 until 7:30am (these times are what swalec told me were for summer off-peak)?! why aren't your storage heaters timed? you should have a seperate elec board (ours is just outside our flat, above the front door). this controls our storage heaters by timer (time set by me with pin things) so that i don't have to physcially turn them on at around midnight and physically turn them off first thing.

our dd is set for £70 x 12 months. we're not in monday to friday daytime though. also, we don't bother turning our immersion heater on at night as we have an electric shower so just boil the kettle to do washing up.

no need for the timers as the fusebox for general electricity alone is on the peak side of the meter. The general and the storage heaters box are wired to the offpeak side of the meter and so the heaters can therefore ONLY work when it's off peak, though it does mean we can;t control how long they're on for - they have to be on for whole time or off for whole time :(
  • Whilst you are talking about Economy 7 I found out recently that if you are on Economy 7 you may get cheaper electric at night but did you know that you pay more than the standard rate in the day time, so this only works if you have storage heaters and timers and can use most of your elec at night.
I still have a economy 7 meter but when I telephoned them they said that when I went onto a social tariff a few months ago I went onto a single low rate. You can ask to go onto a social tariff, if you are on certain benefits but they dont check that you are on benefits so i surpose anyone can change.
I am with British Gas for Electric and Gas.
    Hope this helps someone.
