Hi
I was a SAHM - I didnt return to work til my kids had both gone off to Uni!!I loved being at home but I was forever getting asked "what do you do all day?" or "dont you get bored?".
I found plenty to do and no I never got bored. I loved it and I enjoyed being able to stop at home and watch my kids grow up. The years just fly past- they are now 22 and 20 and I see very little of them!

Hi,
don't forget if you are in a low income job - employed or self employed you may be entitled to Working Tax Credit. Here is a link to the Inland Revenue fact sheet. On page 2 you can calculate entitlement by looking at examples of earnings.
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/pdfs/wtc1.pdf
I used to work in the Social Security and a lot of people don't realise their benefit entitlement.
If you qualify you may also be entitled to help with 70% of your childcare costs.
Best of luck

i dont know these men coming home tea on table, clothes washed and ironed for work, nice clean house (even if a little untidy with toys everywhere!),i'll tell you now i dont drink as much tea as i did at work!!!!!!!!!! this is the real work so if you cant graft don't be a stay at home mum/dad go to work!!!!!!! :rotfl:
problem with the girls is...
...I had a fortnight off work looking after the kids and home whilst OH was covering for another nurse.....great that isnt itother nurse wants days off and I have to use my holidays to be a home dad.
I made an extra effort to show OH it was easy staying home. I made the beds, ironed, dinners, tea on table when she came home, hoovered all carpets etc etc etc I did everything to make the house tidy...believe me I did
When she came home on the first day, I was expecting a comment like "The house is tidy"....she said "Why haven't you cut the grass ?"
second day " Did you not have time to do the windows?"
third day " The garage needs tidiying....did you not get time ?"
By the time the last day came...she was looking round for something to criticise...searching for anything to say.....anything!!!!!

robowen that sounds like real life you should take your holidays off to help round the house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!we like to see no time wasted so no matter what you did there was always a bit of time to fit the grass in! clean the garage whatever if you managed your time properly!! get rid of the telly it will do you good more exercise with housework anyway and the more you do it the faster and more efficient round the house you will become!!!dont give up rob!!!!!!!! (and yes we have telly in every room!!!!!!! but no time as a SAHM to watch it!!!) :rotfl:0

Rob - Good on your other half!!! If she praises you, then you wouldn't try harder the next day would ya. :-)
P.s. Fancy training my hubby to do all/any of what you did????0 -
we used to have cbeebies in both rooms, junior would wander in one room...trash it, then goto the other room and do the same.
Now he is stuck in one room...cbeebies has gone from the back room :rotfl:
Wife tidies up several times a day....
......I wait til junior goes to bed then I tidy up once. and you say I need to be faster and more efficient

When I had my first baby I had to go back to week full time and I hated it, when I had my second 4 years later I went back part-time working weekends and one day in the week. I really didn't want to work and wanted to stay at home with my children but after a while I realized I enjoyed working part time as it was nice to be with other grown up people and I enjoyed working rather than resenting being away from my children. I now work term time only and 4 hours every weekday. I think what I'm trying to say is try not to dread the time you are away from your children as working part time is so so different than working full time and your take home pay seems much more because you are not paying so much tax!But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more0 -
if you want adult company while staying at home you could always join the NCT and join in all the open houses, toddler groups etc
i'm no good at sewing but if you have a look on ebay for washable nappies there are a few work at home mums sewing their own. i don't know how much effort is involved, and how much profit is made but it might be something to look into if you have the time.
i went to work part time in school hours when my eldest was in school but i'm on maternity leave now. i took the extra 6 months unpaid and also the extra month holiday entitlement you can tag onto it, but i don't want to go back to work. i would quite like to work for a few hours a week but childcare wise it wouldn't be worth it at all. if my mum was available i might feel differently about it but at the moment i can't see me going back to work until baby goes to school. my husband doesn't want me to go back - i've suggested working saturdays or evening shifts while he looks after the children :rotfl:
we need a remortgage anyway because our fixed rate has ended and the variable rate is shocking, but i think we may do as has been suggested and remortgage over a longer period or add the ten year loan onto the mortgage, to reduce our monthly outgoings during this skint period when baby is pre-school and i'm not working.52% tight0 -
