Frankly, I don't want to get a job. I'd rather be poor and get to learn about lots of different things than have a job and a car and a house. It's a personal decision.

Likewise. I am studying a subject I have a genuine interest in and thoroughly enjoy. If I get a better wage at the end of it that will just be an added bonus.

The people who fail are usualy the ones who go to uni purely for the wage reasons, and shun all other work during their course. Then when they leave university with nothing on their CV except a degree, they wonder why they can't get a decent job.

Even so, it's getting more and more competitive as the years go on.

  • I haven't started my degree to ONLY get more money at the end of it but getting the degree is the only was in the social work field one can earn better money....if that makes sense!

Purely because nowadays you have to get the degree to become registered so gettingthe degree is a necessary evil. I wouldn't have been able to progress any fruther than I had doen without the degree and yes, to me progression does also bring with it more money.

Saying that I am in a fortunate position that my OH's wage is good so I will be able to 'pick and choose' jobs that maynot be as well paid but are iteresting.

Before I embarked on SW at the age of 18, am now 31 I was going to study archaeology, purely as I love history and all that. However I got cold feet about getting into debt at Uni at 18! Daft really as should have gone for it but at least now history is still a hobby to me.
