Sorry,...thanks dude..innit0

In the interests of keeping this thread on topic .........
Got a call back from Debnhams today but was busy so went to voicemail. Gave me the details fo a third party repair vendor to make contact with however, when I did that the repair vendor asked for the whole story then said the manufacturer 2 year warranty would run from the original Jan 2007 date an not the August 2007 from when I had the original unit replaced so back to the drawing board.
Have taken some advice from Consumer Direct and am writing to Debenhams registered office and also copying the store giving 14 days to come back to me with options.
I'll keep the thread updated as and when anything happens.0 -
Update: got a letter through from Debenhams today saying the advice they gave me was correct i.e. I have to take it up with the manufacturer. I disagree and will write back to this effect.
However, they have also made direct contact with the repairer [oddly Tefal?] and had put a direct telephone number and pre-raised call reference in their letter to me. After a call today to a very helpful customer services rep the unit is being collected for repair/replacement on Friday. They then typically get it back in 3-4 days which I don't think is too unreasonable.
I intend to respond to the above letter, reiterating that my contract is with Debenhams and, although I am allowing the item to go off for repair/replacement, I still ultimately hold them responsible as I purchased the item from them.
Is there anything I should do with regards to a repair? How long should the repair be warrantied for? I'm obviously keen to avoid this whole situation again in say 1 month. If the unit lasts another year I'll just grin and bear it if it breaks again and then just avoid Krups like the plague.0 -

Somehow I think the money issue is not the real reason you only have a spoon. I get the impression that anything more technical would confuse you.0 -
Update: hmmmmm ...... so I've been on holiday for a week so not really missed the coffee maker. I had half thought that I'd have had a call, a letter or anything from the repair agent seeing as they've had the unit since 13th but nothing.
Maybe after the weekend ..... failing that I'll have to be getting on the phone0 -
Appreciate it's been a while but the issue is finally resolved
The repairers could not economically repair the unit after 15 days and advised a new replacement which I received today. The unit is a newer model than the one I had, or seems at least to be cosmetically.
A bit of reasearch on the net would suggest that leaking is an issue on some of the earlier models - let's hope they addressed it!
Anyway, I'm glad that through spending nothing but some time and effort I've got a new machine that some on this thread suggested I should just write off.0 -
Hehe - result. The new model is actually on sale at £100 more than the older one I had.
Looks a bit better, is quieter and has a nicer display. Overall, well done Krups0 -
Well done!0
