  • I think the article below was very useful in describing payment protection insurance.

    Hi, hoping someone can advise.
I took out an Egg loan April 2004 for £10,000 on which PPI of £2170 was added. I was advised it would help the application by taking it out. The next year I consolidated the loan again with Egg, loan amount £10,571 of which I received £1769 and the rest was redemption on the loan. This time I said I didn't want PPI but they said it probably wouldn't go through without it and the PPI figure was £3366.

Sometime in 2006 or 2007 I phoned up and asked for PPI to be taken off which they did and took approx £1500 off my loan. Would I still be able to reclaim and what figures do I use? The second loan?

Sorry if I'm not making much sense but I'm just starting to look into it and help would be great.

    Thanks

    Hi there

Good news is EGG have been fined:

Egg: Fined £721,000 in Dec 2008 for serious failings in its credit card PPI sales by telephone between Jan 05 and Dec 07. Egg has said it will be writing to customers, asking them to call a dedicated number if they are concerned they were missold PPI, and will compensate where appropriate. More Info: Egg.
Have you requested all information from them about your account (SAR)? You can use this info as evidence for your claim.

You can still reclaim the PPI if you feel it was mis-sold, no need to quote any figures to them.

If you took out another loan in 2005 it sounds like they should have written to you also, you may want to click on the Egg link above.

I would claim the ppi back from the time the first loan was taken out right upto the date it was taken off.

If you need any further help please ask;)

  • Firstly, thank you for your swift and informative reply!

They sent me copies of the agreements; is this what you mean?

Can I still claim even though it was credit card PPI they were fined on and mine was a loan?
Also will they not just say they repaid it when I asked (even though they didn't pay much)?
Finally, do I just use Martin's template?

    Thanks

    Hi there

Yes you can still try to complain and reclaim on this, check this out here:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance

You will find some useful mis selling PPI information which may also occur to you, and there is also a template letter you will come across on that link.

Write to them giving your own reasons, they have 8 weeks to respond in full, another letter maybe required - until you receive the final response.

Post by recorded delivery, for proof of posting and to keep a check on the 8 weeks they have to respond.

Hopefully it will go in your favour, but let us know when you hear and if any further help and/or info is required just let us know, good luck.;)

Do you still have all the paperwork?

  • No, I don't have the actual paperwork but I have photocopies from Egg,

Thanks for info. I'm going to give it a go!

Good for you and if you feel you require more details on your account from the company, you could request a Subject access request (SAR) if you wanted to, you will find the template for this on page one of this thread, with details as well.

Good luck and please keep us posted, cheers X;)

Hi sorry did not realise fine was just for credit card ppi:o

The SAR is a Subject Access Request it contains all of the info relating to your account including telephone calls/agreements/other paperwork basically everything. If you send one of these it can take upto 40days to send the info to you also you would have to include £10.

Yip if this was mis-sold and its sounds like it was you can claim this back. No they won't state they gave it back to you, however they will probably try and fob you off hoping you will go away, but don't give up and don't accept a lower offer if they offer you a small sum, you are entitled to the whole amount of ppi.

Yes as Di said use the template letters.

You don't have to obtain a SAR its just you can get more evidence obtaining one.

  • So would you advise getting the SAR before beginning? Will it make a difference? (Sorry for so many questions!)

And I'm being a pain now but do I need a letter for each loan or just one that combines both?

Don't worry ask as many questions as you want to.

I know you can wait upto 40days however you do get a lot of information within the SAR or you can send the 1st template letter, then as Di says they have 8wks.

If you have the SAR you can use the info they send you to help with your complaint.

Its really what you feel best for you to do.

Send all letters recorded delivery and if you go for the SAR the template is on teh forum I think Di may have it or find it better than me lol
