I was under the impression that people posting on this forum were all on the same side, I don't think anyone here wants AF to close down. That would be a great tragedy for a great many people! If nobody is allowed to post constructive criticism then things won't change, they definitely won't change for the better!
Dan has already made changes because of feedback (both good and bad) from this site, and I am sure feedback from his other customers, he has also made mistakes, some of which could have possibly been avoided, some maybe not.
I am pretty sure Dan would be the first to say that he welcomes ALL feedback from ALL his customers, whether they are happy or unhappy. If you don't know about a potential problem you cannot work towards fixing/avoiding it in the future.
As for the problems with payment being taken long before dispatch, perhaps Dan simply did not realise that there were rules regarding this. Maybe in the chaos it seemed more important to concentrate on getting orders out? Now that it has been pointed out though, as a potentially serious problem, he can hopefully work towards getting this right in the future.

He has now popped up on the new thread at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1501541 and basically says that he thinks it's fine to charge for orders weeks before they're delivered. There's no hint of 'sorry, I got it wrong/didn't know'. Clearly he has no intention of abiding by the rules Google puts in place for *our* protection.

Is this thread not going to be locked then?

That information is a bit disappointing mdecker_london it is hard to carry on with full support if rules are being disregarded. I honestly don't know what to say to that. I have often judged how reputable/reliable a company is by whether or not they take funds at point of order or point of dispatch.
  • I find it strange people refer to the food site by the owners name , it might explain why its getting all too personal when someone has a problem with the company .Its pretty clever marketing tbh , I dont see people getting upset when anyone slates Tescos lol. Do any of you actually know him?

    Are you serious?

    What a farce.

because the baby food dates were short....
  • obviously you have never been in business, let alone seen a MEGA growth over night...

i can see, and know waht Dan is going through as my business has gone through the roof, and i have had to employ more staff, and sometimes even though you employ more people you actually take a step back in productivity or picking, and packing in Dan's case. until a routine has been established...

he prob only had a little area where he done is packing, now he prob needs a vast area to pack and store the orders ready to go out... i have spoken to Dan on various occasion, yes due to blips with my order...etc.. and he is a genuine guy.. to you honestly think a crook would refund you ...i think NOT..

so i stand by my statement...

what business do you own? sorry if i'm being nosey;)

that is true enough. I ordered from a DIFFERENT company on dec 17th and they took my money on ordering. I am still waiting and have opened a dispute today via my bank. Once bitten twice shy

Well, I agree with the comment that referring to the owner by name,it makes it all that much more personal. For me this is a shopping transaction, not an emotional investment. Seems others have more of an attachment to the owner as a person, and that is all well and good, but that should not mean they are blind to the issues others are having.

I have just opened my consignment and suffice to say I will not be ordereing again. A tray of soup, and 8 large bottles of orange drinks on top of two boxes of washing powder,.....washing powder creates quite a mess when it has burst and mixed with moisturiser, packed without the top on correctly!!!and then for it to spill out of the box as I lifted it, because the box had perished from the liquids, means it is now all over my porch floor, awaiting cleaning up.

Who packs these items? have they no common sense?

As to why someone who had no financial need to buy from AF would do so,I fall into that category, and all I can say is I like a bargain! but tb it is now no longer worth the aggravation.

I would have thought the first rule of packing a box is put the heavy items in the bottom! Obviously make sure the bottom is well-secured with tape... poet123 were your bottles not individually sealed in a plastic bag? I ordered washing up liquid and it was all individually packaged in sealed bags, so even if one had leaked the damage would be minor.

No,all the bottles were just in without any wrapping,as was the moisturiser! then the tray of soup on top!!washing powder on the bottom!!

My son had an order with drinks in it a couple of weeks ago, and they were packed on a tray, but these looked as if they had just been thrown in!!
