Maybe Foodbargains online name is different to their warehouse name, Approved Foods is also called Crags Cash and Carry is it not? I don't understand why everyone seems to think they are somehow fake or dodgy, there were people who also thought the same of Approved Foods back in the beginning of the other thread and that wasn't the case either. Unless anyone has actual proof of dodgy dealings I think it's best not to make accusations, on that note, has anyone bought from them yet? If people saw that others had bought from them with no problems it might help...

I actually live in the next town from Foodbargains store, which is handy, as next time I can get a lift can go over and check it out :D I had not heard of it either, but as been stated, it could have been around for a while and wouldn't have known of it unless known someone who shopped there. It is new to the internet for sure, and if it has copied AF's model, can you blame them if they have heard of the sudden success.

I made my first order on Saturday night, as that is when I heard of them, and they had some items I wanted in. Price is slightly higher on some items, so best to compare. Some items are the same price as AF, my feeling is that both companies have the same contacts, and if they are getting them from the same supplier, the price they paid will be the same, and the price they charge will be similar.

The store does not have the same system of automatically calculating the delivery cost, which means you have to manually click the button to quote the delivery charge, which is a pain if you are trying to get as close to the weight limit as possible. Noticed a bug where it wouldn't give the quote until I took away or added an item, but the ordering process is ok apart from that.

Monday at around 2pm my parcel arrived. It wasn't DHL but a local firm that they appear to use for Leeds deliveries. As arrived so soon after ordering, could have used same day delivery - I probably was close enough for them to deliver on route to another location. I will have to ring them up and see if that was the case. I am not in the Leeds postcode, so used the national rate. I'll see if I can wrangle the Leeds rate if I order again ;)
Parcel was wrapped up very well, no damage to goods.

So it seems legitimate to me. I think its a case of having to pick and choose and compare prices between the stores, I will use both depending on what items are available, and If I can get a ride up I will see what the store is like.

I don't think a little competition will harm Dan, after all he's the famous one, and no johnny-come-lately to internet bargain food will ever have the amount of publicity he's had. I am not going to switch just because its new, but I know if an item came up that wasn't on AF, I can still get it at better price than the rip off supermarkets.

Great post tricki1 it's nice to see common sense still prevails in some people! I agree that a little competition can be a good thing and I am sure Dan will not lose any of his happy customers. I just wish he would get some more of that Turkish honey in... :p

You should get an e-mail today then saying it has been dispatched, although sometimes the parcel just seems to turn up with no e-mail! hehe  Usually getting the refund e-mail means you are at the top of the packing and dispatching list.

Same here! I think our parcels are aiming for roughly the same destination, too - from what you posted about your whereabouts!
  • Thanks i hope so our cupboards are getting barer lol!!
  • Oooo, Sarahw - my delivery has just come, still not had a dispatch note, though! (well, actually the box came half an hour ago - I had to unpack it and the kids and I are now demolishing a Golden Syrup Cake :))

Hopefully yours will come any time soon!!
