I'm a software test contractor currently 'between contracts' (ok, ok, out on my a**e!).
My background was in robotics, but the future world of armies of robots making all our worldly goods never materialised (damn you and your false promises James Burke!).

I've now turned into Mrs Stress head......still not working, still being mum, just getting into the role as student but more importantly, I have now become even more of a glorified taxi driver, pummel bag and counsellor.

    Ho hum.......

On the bright side, I have become the other half to someone else (not living here though!)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

well done for you....i hope he passed a credit check..:T:T
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I'm head of marketing and business development for a large international law firm based in the City. We're doing pretty well, unlike some of our competitors who are laying off between 5-10% of staff, something which is usually unheard of in law firms, even in the worst of times.

Frankly, I think most of them are using the downturn as an excuse to get rid of deadwood that, culturally, they are reluctant to do in more normal times.

Whatever the case, most of the law firms like the one I work for will still earn profits of £800k-£1.2m for each partner on average, so it's not like they're suffering that much.

The international City based firm my DH is at is doing well too. :) I wonder howe many are? :)

Thery are making gestures towards economy that I think, frankly, are good 'housekeeping' in the main. There is, however, no denying that the pattern of DH's work has changed. e.g. he has travelled, far, far less for work. IMO certain things that were being abused have been stopped under the guise of credit crunch economy that noone wanted to be the unpopular guy for stopping before now. But, they are still recruiting in certain cases, taking their full compliment of trainees and no one has lost a job.

Its also notable that friends/acquaintances at other firms seem to want to be in touch more.
