so what your saying is just send the statement of results in and hope they dont say anything? if they do play stupid??

Not "stupid" but as lowbrim suggests. You had not had to look at your certificates for so long - but knew you had passed (D is a pass).
  • yeah can see what you mean...Well i'll just send them in and if its highlighted- i can honestly say that i had never noticed and for the past 10-15yrs i have been using the grades that i had originally given!

Your right that a "D" is a pass though, so i guess i can advise that i knew i had passed but thought "C" was the pass Mark!

thanks everyone for all the advice..here's to a few more stressful days..lol

Just tell them the truth its 17yrs ago its hard to remember. You should not get penalised for it.

What you have been doing for the last 17yrs is more important than a school exam 17 yrs ago.

yes, that is what i want to say

I think you should come clean now.

Employers sometimes do random audits of employees qualifications and if any inconsistencies are found it cna lead to diciplinary and/or dismissal!

Do you really want that hanging over you?

  • no i dont want it hanging over me..hence the dilema i face now :)
Think i will write letter which will include copy of results and explain away :)

    STOP STOP STOP.

    Dont send them a letter.

Its standard practice to ask you to bring in proof of qualifications on first day along with birth certificate, bank details, driving license, passport etc etc.

I have had 4 blue chip jobs in last 12 years and all have asked for these.
I also was required to bring similar to college when I started A level and Uni when I started degrees one and two.

So a total of 7 requests.

6 of these requests - I turned up with my big folder of paperwork carried it around for about two weeks and nowone ever asked to see it.

1 of these requests a woman from HR insisted on photocopying everything - even a swimming certificate that was in there by accident and didnt look at a single one - just filed them in a new folder and returned the originals.

Most companies these days realise that these things can be faked so easliy and references falsified (How many people are now claiming 5 years retail management experience at Woolworths!!!!) and most proper companies wont provide references - only confirm that a person of that name worked there for a certain period.

Therefore they use their own judgement and a 6 month probation period which can be extended.

Go in on day one - worst case scenario they ask for them and look at them just say OOOPS.

Most jobs these days are very specific and unrealistic about what skillset they need. What they dont look at is the whole person and what they bring.

Probably the worst advice I have read!

What a impression to make on your first day!

For gawds sake its a couple of GCSE's! that OP actually has and hasn't lied about having, he hasn't claimed PHd's coming out of his ears that don't exist. If an employer was focused only on my GCSE results when I'd had many many years of work experience demonstrating competancy since leaving school I wouldn't want to work for them anyway.

OP it's up to you if you want to write a letter as only you know if you're prepared to wing it or not but to be brutally honest Id be more irritated by a prospective employee flapping over such a minor issue than I would about them having quoted the wrong pass grade!

  • OP just listen to the majority of posters here. Forget about it. Don't listen to that bozo character. I'm new on here and I've seen several of his posts. A bit of a prig to say the least!?!
