mistake in Job application

i have applied for a position filled out the application with GCSE grades etc and other eductation courses i have completed.
After successfully completing the interview, it seems that i had to get a copy of gcse's taken -bearing in mind this was over 17yrs ago when i left school.
managed to get copies but my Maths grade is a D instead of a C that i quoted also Humanities is an F instead of E that i quoted...the other results are fine..leaving me still with 4 gcse's over C grade or above.
very panicky now, as it wasnt deliberate, but honjest mistake-been using the same results for last 10-12 years?/ what do i do-either way i have to disclose them...dont want to lose position before i get it?
should i write a letter explaining the situation?

I'd just ring and explain what happened- unless a grade C at maths is a requirement of the job, you'd have a good chance of being fine?
You're not the first and won't be the last- I know of people in positions who knowingly declared their grades wrongly.:rolleyes:If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
i'll write a long letter explaining circumstances- although its not an excuse!
I think that the Grade C for Maths was required? cant remember?
Will just apologise and advise them to cancel my application due to the above mistake. It will get cancelled anyways if C is required!
Shame really, cos i had to pass fitness, driving tests, medical tests and panel interview to get this far!!
Iwill advise that that i will restudy my Maths and reapply at later date if applicable!0 -
If you did need the C for Maths, say you are happy to take the test for the Adult Certificate in Numeracy at Level 2 (which is accepted as being equivalent to broadly A*-C of GCSE).
Contact a LearnDirect centre to take the test so that you have it ready for another occasion if needed. They would do an assessment with you first to gauge your current level and you would do some more learning to ensure you were at the right level. There is no charge.0 -
Just tell them the truth its 17yrs ago its hard to remember. You should not get penalised for it.
What you have been doing for the last 17yrs is more important than a school exam 17 yrs ago.0 -
thats what i am hoping will happen..that they judge me on life experience and other positions held?..but then it would mean that ideally i should not have been selected, and someone else should have took my place??
Just want this position soo much..worked hard to get here and to slip up here is gut wrenching!!0 -

Just my opinion but don't write anything down, least of all a 'long letter'-you'll look either a) guilty and rumbled or b) look like you're overeacting and easily flustered-either way bad! I would personally say nothing unless its' brought up when you can apologise in person. I wouldn't give it the gravitas of anything furtrher as it was a genuine mistake. What kind of employer cares about GCSE's past the age of say 20 anyway???"I always pass on good advice. It is the only thing to do with it. It is never of any use to oneself" -Oscar Wilde0 -
It would be hard for an employer to show that it was vital an employee needed precisely a Grade C or higher at GCSE from 17 years before. There are other examinations which have to be considered as equivalent. Saying GCSE only is too prescriptive.
Certainly don't bother to write and point out the disparity. They are probably not going to check all the certificate grades against your application form. They will have formed an opinion of your level of ability from your previous work record and any tests that you were asked to do during the selection process. Don't worry about it.0 -

I agree dont make an issue of it just send the certificate as requested if they raise it as an issue (which i very much doubt) just tell them the truth you did not refer to the certificate in fact you had a job finding it when they requested it and never thought to double check. I can honestly say I dont know where mine is!!
I wouldguess they are just making sure you have a level of education and not actually interested in the grades after 17years.0
