Thought you would have gone into branch and done it already.

I was always led to believe that you could only have one basic/cash account as they were designed as a 'last resort' so to speak, for people who simply cannot get any other type of account? Or is this a different account that Barclays offer.....Some say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

They are our last resort, yes - they're mainly there to address the Government's requests for universal banking - but that doesn't mean we're going to limit what people can have them. We'll let anybody have them if they ask, and we promote it in our literature alongside regular accounts to show the option is there. What would William Shatner do?0 -

Does that mean if i'm refused a current account (BBA) that I applied for will they offer me a Basic Account or do I have to make separate application for a basic one if the BBA is rejected?
Thanks again for any help...Some say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...

The software used by sellers in branches automatically gives the option to go straight through and open up a Cash Card Account, but if you're applying online, I think you would then need to go and apply for that separately.
I'm sure one of the Personal Bankers that posts on here can come and clarify, I haven't worked in a branch for nearly a year and a half now, so I might be off. What would William Shatner do?0 -

I have 2 cashcard accounts in my name and a joint one with Hubby. However when we went into branch last Saturday to open the joint account and a single one for Hubby although the joint application was ok when Hubby was declined for a current account (which we knew he would be) there was no option on the screen for the personal banker to open a cashcard account.
She said that this was because they're not supposed to open cashcard accounts in branch and that you are supposed to send off a postal application but I opened both my single accounts and the joint account in branch.
Hubby has sent off postally for his account and is now waiting to hear.
Also you can't open a cashcard account online. If you go to the website it tells you to go into your local branch where apparently they are supposed to just give you a postal application pack.xxx Nikki xxx0 -

Thanks for info, handy to know. So I assume they aren't too bothered about past credit history then when you open a Barclays Cash Account? Also, do you get visa debit card or electron cards? Some say he is a racist, others say he is a liar but the truth will always prevail...
