I didn't even know that 23 subjects existed!! From what I remember our choices were limited from a range of 15.

There are hundreds of different options, the great majority of which are available for self study if you are so inclined!

It does strike me that they mentioned his pass in Travel and Tourism, hardly something to compare to a pass in Mathematics!

I very much doubt he's thought about the fact that while his 23 A levels will get him into a uni easily it may well hinder him massively when entering the job market. Unless he wants to be a researcher/scientist or a teacher then many companies will be put off by his over-qualification. After all, how many managers want somebody working for them who is a damn sight cleverer than them? Not very many I can tell you...

When I was at secretarial college (1977-1979) I could attend an evening class at A level for free, but had to pay for the exam. I knew this, but suddenly got 2 weeks' notice to pay for it and couldn't afford it, so couldn't take the exam in A Level Maths. It was £27 back then! However did he afford to take the exams alone? Never mind special equipment in some subjects.

A Levels were not an option for me at the time, but in the last few years I've looked to do A Level Maths and evening classes these days aren't like they used to be and the subjects simply aren't available (which I think they should be).

It must have cost a fortune to do 23 subjects by any form of study available.

In 1977-79 just the exams alone would be £621... god knows how much today.

The "norm" for people staying on at school "in my day" was 3 A Levels.

Well done to the lad and all that, but you do kind of have to wonder why bother?
