Your own bank will take these with no problem.

  • £5 notes are not issued by ATM's.

Yes they are. I've not seen one that allows you to specify a withdrawal below £10 for years, but often when I withdraw £20 I get a tenner and two fivers!

A lot of uni cashpoints have £5 notes for obvious reasons.

The one at my uni dispenses crisp 'out of the factory' £5 notes. All the serials are in numerical order and everything, tis well cool (for the geekiness)

Hi ive only ever seen one machine give them out.Its in central newcastle and actually gives you the option.Locals call it the chav cash point. When they only have £5 left in their accounts the queue is huge lol.
Op just use them as your normal spends til they are used up.Instead of using your normal cash flow.

I hardly ever used the one near uni - either used the one in the town centre or debit card but have never gotten a £5 note out of an ATM

Just take them to your branch and pay them into your account for goodness sake. If they ask you why you've got X hundred pounds in old fivers just tell them the truth. There's no law against collecting fivers...I wish I had a few more!

Barclays cash machines in and outside branches often have £5 notes in them. They are the only high street bank to do this though.
  • If it's a huge stash of fivers, might be usefull ringing the bank up and
letting them know when you are coming with a large lump of cash.
They tend to usher you to one side, away from the glaring eyes of other customers. They also don't tend to ask all the Laundering questions...

Also don't carry it to the bank in a high value leather bag, which can attract the snatch and grab thieves.
