Banks may be reluctant to touch this money, as they may find themselves implicit in a money laundering saga. You may have to spend them.Mortgage free

I'd imagine you'll be just fine with them, but I would recommend you take them to your own branch as they will want you to pay them into your account if "quite a lot" as emphasized means "Quite a Lot" I recently had a non mainstream foreign currency to exchange, "quite a lot" too. The only way the bank would change it was if I paid it into my account. Anyway, am I missing something here, have £5vers ceased to be in circulation?Hi..have accumulated quite a stash of £5 notes...will the banks accept these?...will they give me a cheque or do i need to take them to my own bank? Lol if your talking about paying several hundred quid in fivers, I suspect a store may have much more of an issue than your bank.thanks...will a store accept them for, say, a tele??Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Agreed, I would think it slightly dubious if you paid for a £400 television in £5 notes.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Never seem to get a new £5 note these days, they are always grotty and dirty."When the Government borrows, the citizen has to save".

Never seem to get a new £5 note these days, they are always grotty and dirty.
There is a reason for this. Obviously, the value of £5 notes is quite low, so they only want to put a limited amount of resources into looking after them. In recent years, they have been far more concerned in why there are less in circulation than there should be.
They have now found that someone who goes by the pseudonym 'ipri' has most of these, and the mysterious 'ipri' may be planning on purchasing something code-named 'tele'. This is thought to be a teleporter, but may instead be a television, telephone or telescope.
So with all this work to do in looking after £5 notes, can you really expect them to have time to print new ones? :rotfl:0 -
Ok Ok...when my daughter left home to go to uni...I reverted to my old student days..ie..every time I came home with a fiver note...I'd put it in a box at back of bedroom cupboard!....the idea was that if she needed any cash for some ( serious) reason,I'd use this....well,after 4 years she didnt need it..now back home...And I've got a wodge to get rid of!! nothing sinister really. Lol, very wise and prudent, as I say, just take it down to your local branch as they might require you to pay it into your account, but other than that I'm sure you'll have no problem at all. A retailer might be a little dubious of a lot of fivers, but the bank will be fine.Ok Ok...when my daughter left home to go to uni...I reverted to my old student days..ie..every time I came home with a fiver note...I'd put it in a box at back of bedroom cupboard!....the idea was that if she needed any cash for some ( serious) reason,I'd use this....well,after 4 years she didnt need it..now back home...And I've got a wodge to get rid of!! nothing sinister really.
