Seriously, if joneejay's internet connection is back up, commiserations on losing your job, but for the rest of us, Powerhouse won't be missed!

All the retailers are big bad bois ey? Yeah must be that. I hope they all go bust - then there'll be no retailers.

    Yah.

    Sounds good.

and for the record lol - my internet was d/c whilst i moved house for the 4 months! =oP

Powerhouse, the UK's third biggest electrical retailer, has gone into administration, closing 50 stores and making about 500 staff redundant.

    So joneejay

    Re your quotes below

Yeah My name is Chris Onslow. And I run PowerHouse.

    I don't think.

    LOL. You people are sad.

And yes. We should feel bad for the unlucky ones who lost their jobs when the PDS stores closed, but I think it was quite well known what was going on - afterall - nostock, no nothing.

If PH had told everyone properly [even just the staff] then the news would spread like wildfire and there would have been uproar. Your safety would be at risk from angry customers thinking they would be losing money. PH handled it quickly and efficiently.

The PDS stores were the loss making stores which were dragging down the company. Fair enough it might not be the employees fault that the stores weren't making money - but it was hardly PH's.

IF this was comet closing down some loss making stores - would we even be having this discussion.

PowerHouse is a top quality electrical retailer. They have not done anything wrong and have tried to make sure everyone stays happy.

With regard to beware PowerHouse. I think that's complete nonsense.

You might all say you would never shop at PH ever again, but if you remember back to when it all began - PH started the price wars. We were the ones who lowered the prices and it's comet and currys who had to lower theirs to keep up.

Next time your shopping around - make sure you look what our price is normally, [NVM the discounts we have everywhere.] and look into what PH has done for the community recently.

I'm talking sponsoring local schools for children with special needs, sponosring football teams so they can have a proper football kit.

They want to be the community retailer. And one day. PH will rise again.

    Mwuahahaha.

It`s deja vu again ....isnt it joneejay

Give it up ...there is help out for your delusions

This is the THIRD time that Powerhouse have gone bust. The first time was back in 2003. I think it's now time to lay this brand-name to rest.

My partner used to work for Powerhouse and left just before they went bump the first time. I remember talking to some of his colleagues and the ones who they didn't keep weren't even as lucky to get a redundancy cheque- not sure what happened about that?

They'll probably come back with a crazy name like.....Tempo next time!!!

No, that would be a silly name for an electrical retailer - they would never last!

  • I actually thought this was a new post and read through the comments. I read one story that seemed very familiar then realised it was my post back in February!

Seems very strange that the so called man who runs Powerhouse should pop up just a month before the last crash.

Incidentally, four months to get an internet connection? I'd complain to someone if I were you. You might end up on the phone all day trying to sort it out but then, you probably have the time to spare now. (I feel entitled to that dig as I have been left out of pocket before by Powerhouse)
  • I was one of the unlucky ones to fall into this hole.

Bought a fridge freezer (on debit card  ) on Saturday 29th July, Powerhouse went bust on 2nd August.

Spoken to the administrators and they dont know what stock they have etc so sounds like I have lost my £300 and have no Fridge Freezer.

What type of Debit Card did you use?

If it was any type of Visa debit card then you will get your money back through your bank :)

I thought that using a debit card was just like paying cash, and that they are not covered by the same conditions that apply to credit cards regarding getting refunds.

I thought the same (someone put me right on this forum but can't track down the thread), but apparently Visa carries extra protection even if it's a debit card:
