also if anyone knows how old do you have to be to claim redundancy i had been wiv the company 3 yrs but was told by powerhouse's solicitors i was too young as i am only 19.

    Check here: http://www.dti.gov.uk/er/redundancy/payments-pl808a.htm

You need to have worked for them for 2 years to be entitled to redundancy but unfortunately the clock only starts when you're 18, so for redundancy purposes you've only been working for them for a year :(
  • ok cheers thank you for answering my question, i thought they were trying to have me on.

    NOTE:
PowerHouse did NOT go bust in 2004

    continues...
    Well I don't think it's a laughing matter.

PowerHouse do not try to just get out of it everytime - what they try and do is make money for themselves. With rock bottom prices on EVERYTHING, their prices are too low for margin.

That is why whenever you buy from PowerHouse, the attention is on financial services. That is how they make their money, and dont try to con you out of your money.

Can I just point out the prices in PowerHouse are all the same nationwide. This is not the same as the other retailers, Comet in scunthorpe sells their Panasonic 37" non high def at £1199 (there's a PowerHouse next door) and the one in grimsby (with no PowerHouse) is £1499.

All PowerHouse ever try to do is make money on financial services. You don't have to say yes to these, whereas go to Comet in grimsby and you have to pay their prices.

Please also bear it in mind that it is run by different people now -

Scottish Power SOLD to PowerHouse. Scottish Power guarantees were upheld (when they didn't have to do!!!)

PowerHouse went BUST. Guarantees were not upheld because there was NO MONEY.

PRG bought PowerHouse and rebranded as the new PowerHouse. If it had been Lloyds Pharmacy who had bought it - would you be making the same suggestions?!

It's a different company who sell the same kind of products like all electrical retailers.

And also, the reason staff were not told of the closures in advance was to stop rumour leaking out, putting them at risk. No customers lost any money in the closures, and there is a specialist help line for all those PDS Stores.

If you were due to have a delivery (delivery service is courier based) it was only delayed by a few days. If you were due to collect you could have drove to your nearest PowerHouse or had it delivered free of charge.

    END.

so which board member are you? :p
  • I'm not being funny buy yes obviously that chap is part of the executive management team of NEW POWERHOUSE...Mate you could have been a bit more subtle about it.

I've got nothing against your store but everytime i've popped in the prices have been so uncompetitive It really hasn't crossed my mind to buy anything an i've made a quick exit..am I the only one?
The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!
  • Yeah My name is Chris Onslow. And I run PowerHouse.

    I don't think.

    LOL. You people are sad.

And yes. We should feel bad for the unlucky ones who lost their jobs when the PDS stores closed, but I think it was quite well known what was going on - afterall - nostock, no nothing.

If PH had told everyone properly [even just the staff] then the news would spread like wildfire and there would have been uproar. Your safety would be at risk from angry customers thinking they would be losing money. PH handled it quickly and efficiently.

The PDS stores were the loss making stores which were dragging down the company. Fair enough it might not be the employees fault that the stores weren't making money - but it was hardly PH's.

IF this was comet closing down some loss making stores - would we even be having this discussion.

PowerHouse is a top quality electrical retailer. They have not done anything wrong and have tried to make sure everyone stays happy.

With regard to beware PowerHouse. I think that's complete nonsense.

You might all say you would never shop at PH ever again, but if you remember back to when it all began - PH started the price wars. We were the ones who lowered the prices and it's comet and currys who had to lower theirs to keep up.

Next time your shopping around - make sure you look what our price is normally, [NVM the discounts we have everywhere.] and look into what PH has done for the community recently.

I'm talking sponsoring local schools for children with special needs, sponosring football teams so they can have a proper football kit.

They want to be the community retailer. And one day. PH will rise again.

    Mwuahahaha.

Who's was it then? The big bad customer for not paying their more expensive prices?

God yeah, and we'd be gloating they were getting what they deserved...just like Powerhouse.

Not doing a great job then really are they? I'm still trying to find a Powerhouse where I can see more customers than staff when I walk past.

Aha, that's where you've been the last 4 months - the Powerhouse indoctrination course! You passed with flying colours then?!
