Charity shops sell suitcases, often with keys, for very little.

we use an old suitcase under our bed with a padlock on it to stop prying eyes seeing grown up stuff, this would work the same for flatmates who borrow without permission - as long as you get a decent padlock for it.

This takes me back to my student days. My step dad did up his father's war chest (very solid wood) and I used it with a strong padlock for the same reasons. 25 years later it is still going strong and soon to be going away with my son to uni as well to keep his valuables safe!

Does anyone know where I would stand with this. My younger sister who has bee brought home for shop lifting been involved with the police etc has threatened a few times now to smash up my car. If she did this (to my pride and joy) where would I stand? Would I have to pay for the damage? How would i prove it?
  • Ask on FREECYCLE if anyone has a 'Samsonite' suitcase - they have combinations which you can change.
People don't use them for holidays anymore beacause they are too heavy - if you fly with squeezy jet you could pack 4 t-shirts in one for your 15kgs.

You would need either a witness or video evidence.
The same as if someone bumps your car on the street and drives off, you pay to have any damage repaired either out your own pocket or via your insurance which would mean paying an excess and possibly losing no claims bonus.
