We have a new(ish) Poundland in the indoor shopping complex in Cambridge but as I'm 10 miles out of town, parking is astronomical and Park & Ride buses can take an hour crawling through the horrific traffic... I haven't been there. Maybe it's worth biting the bullet, but I'll need to buy a lot to make it worth paying for diesel and parking. Living so far out of town has real disadvantages sometimes, though I wouldn't want to swap.

I got some bamboo trellis supports yesterday along with 2 of the strawberry/herb planters. I'll use the supports for my honeysuckles until the garden gets sorted out and I get my trellis up.

I think I'm as addicted to poundland as I am to gardening, that was my 3rd visit since Sunday. Been buying lots of planters.

I saw the packs of bamboo canes a couple of weeks or so but didn't need them, now I'm going to grow tomatoes and they have none left. Even got my husband to check the store near his work and they don't have them either. I grudge paying B&Q prices for them now!

Edit: Hmm, might have to have a trip out to B&M at the weekend, just had a look at their website and there is one about 20 miles from me. Thanks Orange King!

    Debt-free and Proud!
It is always worth asking if they have any out the back.
They seem to have a huge stock and only put out some leaving stock behind.
I only found out when my DH asked for something the other day and the lady went out the back and got some!

I got some bits and pieces from poundland for the garden and lottie, like blood fish and bone, seed potatoes etc.
I will tell you what is a BIG waste of money from there. They have rolls of weed reducing membrane which I bought for the lottie. Honestly, you could spit through it, it's that thin!!!!! I put some down, and the weeds are happily growing away under it. It seems to have warmed the soil a bit, while still letting in air and light. Total waste of money IMHO.
Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

I bought some to line a couple of my raised beds because the first raised bed i lined i used B & Q liner and it cost £8. I tried to cut the cost by buying the cheap stuff from poundland but I should have known the cheap stuff wasn't going to be much good...I had to double it to line the raised beds and I reckon i could have quadrupled it if i had had enough. The material is so wispy that i fully expect it not to prevent weeds coming through at all!

It's only a small store so doesn't have a huge amount. Having said that I have picked up a few things from there. If you're anywhere near Huntingdon there's a fairly big 99p store which has a lot of stuff, and the parking's a lot cheaper too!

  • Annie123, is this the shop down by Argos, or the one between Mothercare and Allders? If I'm going to brave the horrors of central Croydon (especially as it'll be with my mum  ), I want to know exactly where I'm going, so I can plan attack and most importantly, a rapid escape by 10.30am, when the main population starts rolling out of bed!
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
