Good news, but also sad news

Just had some fab news, im going to be an aunty :j , my younger sister who is 24 end of Feb just told me.
Sad news is, im from Australia and now of course desperately wanna go out to visit. She's probably due around Oct time, she's not sure yet, won't find out from the Dr till Wednesday.
I work in a school and of course the 1st thing i did was look for flights for the summer to Australia, thinking how nice it would be to go shopping with her for baby things.
I myself don't have any children, so its very exciting, 1st grandchild for my parents and also 1st great grandchild.
But the 1st flight i found was £1,336
I don't have that kind of money and definately cannot afford to put away enough each week to get that kind of money. (in a DMP, so getting credit is not an option)
Im happy, well over the moon with excitement, but then also sad at how much im going to miss out on. Suddenly being so far away from home is showing its negative side.

Qantas and swiss air have some good deals at the moment but not sure of prices in the summer but worth a lookPanda on My Shoulder
If you can make it cheaper do so. If it's not reduced, in Primark, off ebay or free I can't have it :rotfl:0 -
congratulations to you and your family.
Sorry to hear about the finacial problems!:j Proud mum to Jade age 10 years and Baby Ellie born Christmas Day:eek: with a broke heartProven to be a little fighter and battling on with her heart condition :j

Can you ebay stuff and put that money aside just for your flights or is it possible to get a second job. Go across to the Up Your Income board for lots of ideas on how to get extra money and then you can save for the flights.
Also post your SOA up here and see whether the good people on here can trim it down for you - sorry, having looked at the amount of posts you have posted, I don't want to think that I am teaching your grandmother to suck eggs!!!:rotfl: :rotfl:
Congratulations by the way - it is exciting news! Do you have a webcam so even if you cant manage to go home, it would be the next best option seeing your new niece/nephew.When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0 -
Sadly i don't think i will be able to fly out this year, maybe next summer, but even then the neice/nephew would be nearly 1.
Obviously my job counts against me actually seeing the baby as a baby as i really can't fly all that way for that amount of money for like 2 weeks.
Summer is my only chance.
I already do more than 1 job: 32.5 hours as a teaching assistant, 5 hours curriculum work for teachers.
Then i work during my school holidays for a school holiday club and also in the process of doing respite care for a student at my school, i have filled in the forms for the family and they're sorting it out through social services. They're possibly getting 12hrs a mth. Not much i know.
I don't have a webcam, but will definately get one. Also need to convince my sister to get one.
It would just be so amazing to get to spend time with her this August before she has the baby. Be nice to go out shopping together and all that stuff.
Always knew she'd have kids before i do (im 27 soon) and knew this day would come eventually when id miss out on all this kinda stuff. I've been in the UK since i was 21 and my time here has just flown by.
I've definately going to sell things through out the year like ebay and local paper and put that money away for a flight and get out eventually.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Congratulations on your impending Auntie-dom! :T
Glad to hear that you are sorting out the webcams; it will be great to be able to have that sort of conversation with your sister. My mum worked in Adelaide for a couple of years, and we really should have done it then.
Clearly, you're already working really hard, and you will only have a little time available to earn more by your eBaying etc. I wanted to say that depending on what you have to sell, it may well be quicker than you think to hit the target. I started eBaying at the end of August last year with a target of paying for this year's summer holiday, and I am almost there (about £60 spending money left to go if today's eBay buyers pay up). And I have been very slothful in listing over December/January. So the very best of luck to you - & all power to your listings!0 -
Congratulations on the impending aunty to be status.
I love being an auntie its so rewarding.
Sorry to hear about the distance between you hope you can sort out some cheap travel.
I have a webcam that I have never used got it in a tombola dont know how good it is- but its new and boxed - your sister is welcome to it. Just let me know. I have sent you a private message.
Good luck and best wishes.

Korean are often cheaper particularly if you are prepared to overnight when refuelling.0 -

Thanks just visited the site and travel dates are not in July - Aug. I will struggle to get good deals at this time with it being summer holidays here. If i didn't work in a school the site would be perfect, i was liking the cost.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Second the webcam idea - my friend has one for talking to her parents in Spain so they can see how much the wee man is growing. He recognises them now and grins away at the screen0
