Hi

Which one to choose though??
Daughter wants to go to Mexico and Son in law wants Mauritius!!!

    Hi:
Tell your son-in-law two things - one, if he wants his marriage to go well he'd best start agreeing with his new wife from the get go !
But more importantly having returned from Mauritius a few weeks ago I would advise him against it.
Most of the resorts are self-contained,often miles from anywhere - not that there is very much to see and do in Mauritius.
Cancun will be much more fun especially for someone of their age group and there's a hell of a lot more to see and do in Mexico.
    Take it from the Jockster.
  • It's going to be down to timing as well - Mauritius is cooler but drier (around 24 degrees I think) in our summer but should be pleasant if the hotel's in the North/West. I'm not sure how predictable the weather in Cancun will be.

Flights could also be a factor - only scheduled airlines fly to Mauritius, so these will generally offer more than the charters (drinks, space etc)

What are they wanting - loads to do or just chill out? I'd highly recommend the Maldives from my own experience, not much to do, but amazing for a honeymoon.

There is the risk of hurricanes between June and November in Cancun - something to bear in mind.

    Hi,

I went to Mexico Jul / Aug we stayed near Playa del Carmen a bit futher down the coast than Cancun. We had a great time felt safe all the time espically with a 4 year old running about.

The only bad thing was It was so hot but the humidity is so high. We were back in our room between 9-10 most nights for the air conditioning. (this was the only down side for us)

Either way im sure they will have a great time.

Two of my friends stayed at the El Dorado Royale on the Riviera Maya about 18 mths ago and loved it, plus one of my colleagues visited it on a fam trip a year ago and was also very impressed. It's also got the Conde Naste recommendation ;)

Returned yesterday from El Dorado Royale. It is a fantastic resort for honeymooners and couples. We were not on honeymoon but relaxed straight away. If they can afford it they should try for the Casita suites. We were really lucky in that they upgraded us to one of these for nothing for 5 nights.
First Choice do very good prices for this hotel.
If you want any more info let me know.

Cancun, as there aint a lot to do in Mauritius once you have worn out the bed springs and done a bit of snorkelling.
  • Mauritius would be my choice having spent a wonderful week there for my birthday in October BUT BEWARE ACCESS BAGGAGE!!! We flew with Emirates and were charged over £400 for this. The contents weren't even to this value. What a rip off! Their baggage allowance is 20k which to me is totally inadequate for a long haul flight.
