Car insurance for offroad only

Has anyone any experience of getting insurance for a vehicle which is for off road use only? I don't mean off road racing or anything like that but just for getting up a muddy track to a house.
The car will have no MOT or car tax. Will that make any insurance invalid?
Sorry for all the questions but in need an expert!!

You can take out just Fire and Theif insurance and will be very cheap. Since you dont need third party cover cause it will be off-road.
  • Surely you need to have a valid MOT and Tax for a policy to be valid? (asking a question, not stating)

Are there "specialist" companies who arent fussed? I have never seen a company who offer anything without 3rd party cover?
  • Assuming the muddy track is on your land and you do not intend to take the vehicle onto the public highway, what do you want the insurance to cover?

I'm guessing you won't be spending a lot on the car so the insurance would probably be more than say a 1990 Fiat Panda 4x4.

This went through one of the auctions in Leeds

    LANDROVER DISCOVERY 4.0 V8I (LPG) DEC 1994 108K M £700

Also, have you got spare NCD to apply to this other vehicle if you go down the insurance route?

If not and you are starting from zero it will cost quite a bit with no discount.

NCD earned so far cannot generally be used on 2 cars, some insurance companies will mirror the NCD but they are few and far between.

If you are not going to take it onto the public highway or with other motor vehicles why do you want insurance against a car accident with another motor vehicle?

And as discussed, no tax / MOT would invalidate any insurance policy you took out,

I'm sure there is no legal obligation to insure a vehicle which is not to be used on the roads

actually there will be a legal requirement to insure a car that is off the road soon, I even posted a link about it the other day. Only way around it is to declare your car SORN. But to the OP, you can get the insurance without third party and it is very cheap, like £20, you do not earn NCD on it, and I think you cant even use NCD on it either. You dont get it from websites, and stuff. You have to call, It is normally easier to have full insurance and downgrade it but not necessarily. And for people who ask why you want it, it is so if it get stolen, your car is covered. It does not have third party but have fire and theif. And why it is so cheap, cause as one person pointed out on other discussion about crime, Theif only count about 5% of the car insurance claims now. So in normal situations it will be quite a good risk to insure, and if on private property which lets assume make it more difficult to get to the car, and drive it off, even lower risk. Plus the fact if the car is in storage, they might wheels off, bleed the breaks, disconnect the battery etc... There will be much easier targets on the nearest road than that car.

I can't really envisage a scenario where a car would not need TP cover unless it was never driven. Even if it's on private land, it could have an accident with another vehicle. What if another car was coming down the muddy track leading to this house and the two collided?
