I know I am being a bit dense but can you please confirm for me that the money pledged each week for this challenge is money that just you spend on you? Not what the Hubby, Daughters, cats !, etc suddenly want.
I keep coming unstuck with NSD's the same way - I want to join in the challenge's but find I suddenly need to get something for someone else and end up getting angry with myself (!) that I haven't had a NSD/have gone over my weekly budget that I have set myself.
I have been keeping a spending diary to keep my spending in check which is fine but it is all these other things that are a problem.
I have been lurking and and addding a few replies here and there but think I need to really get on with the Challenge's.0 -

Welcome Busterollie. As everyone has different lives and different incomes. The essence of this challenge is you decide what to include and what not to.
I am lucky that I don't have children so don't have their demands to take into account. If you find it easier to only include what you spend on yourself that is a start.
As for Hubby and children have you tried giving them a budget that they are allowed to spend and letting them manage their own money but on the condition that when it runs out they cannot come running to you for more unless it is a dire emergency this might help you keep control of things better.
It seems like you are quite hard on yourself remember for most people changing the way they spend does not happen overnight. Things have started to come together for me now but I started trying to budget and stay in control about 5 years ago and slowly I have managed to save for yearly spends and not touch that money and think about what I spend. Overtime things do get easier as long as you try and stay focused and make this a way of life.
Good luck just let us know what you pledge and I will update the first post.Weekly Spend Challenge: £0/£30

With me it depends! Nearer the end of the month I use this for everything, including my groceries. As I just got paid I still have money left in my groceries budget so I use this weeks budget for "me money".
For example, the other week I bought an iPod, but didn't include it in this challenge as I had already found the money and budgeted for it. I personally use this challenge for the silly little things I don't really need!0 -
Hi Pointypenguin
Can I join too? My challenge for this week (and every week, probably) will be £10 which is my weekly 'pocket money'. I've had the same problems as Busterollie with trying to keep this money in my purse, but OH and kids always need it for something else!
So, taking your excellent advise from above, I've made a couple of changes to the budget and will be telling the family that they have to manage within the money they have every week. Fingers crossed that it works!
Oh, and I also have a terrible chocolate and coke habit which needs to be sorted, so this thread should help...I could do with losing the weight I've gained too, so double-wammy!

pointpenguin - Thank you for your advise. I will decide what I want my money to do and let you know a figure for the list.
Beencounting - Great to have someone with the same problems - doesn't make me feel quite soo daft! I'll be watching what you put for your weekly amount with great interest!!0 -

Hi, Welcome!
In my £15 budget, I include any groceries that I buy over my £30 budget (mainly because we probably don't need them!) and any extras that I want. (Like if I can't be bothered to make lunch, and so have to buy it.) This week, I'm really hoping that my £30 budget is enough for food, as (like I've written elsewhere) I want to get my eyebrows waxed, and I've found a wonderful (gentle) place that does it without torturing me! :T
Your budget is what you choose it to be for.
