Options
Hello everyone,

I am after some reasonably priced fuchsia and geranium seeds, and any kind of fruit bushes. Any suggestions please? Thanks.

  • Why do you want fuchsia and geranium seed? - plants are usually propagated from cuttings. Growing them from seed is much harder.

    Agree

Ask round friends and relatives for cuttings and for fruit bushes, as well.

In Homebase today they had fruit bushes for £1.99 each. Lots of different types blueberries, raspberries etc plus some trees too, like cherry, pear...I cant remember how much the trees were though.

Well, I know I can grow fuchsias and geraniums from the cuttings but I am the adventurous type. E.g. I grew clematis from seed, olives from olive stones...:j:j:j
However, I was only asking as i only have one type of fuchsia that survives the winter, and none of my geraniums ever survived winter - so I don't bother anymore, and I am not fortunate to have friends with this sort of blooms or fruit bushes. By the by - how do you grow fruit bushes from the cuttings??? I do currently have a blackcurrant bush that seems to be holding onto its dear life :-) .

Rotwein44 - thank you very much, I will go there asap. :T:T:T

I saw these last year and didn't buy any, think I will this year.

    Thanks for the info.

I've had some fabulous perennials from Aldi for £1 each. Bought them about 5 years ago and they are doing really well.

Sounds like your problem with the fuchsias is that you're getting the wrong kind - if you want ones that last through winter outside you need hardy varieties. Ask around, lots of people with have hardy fuchsias in their garden, you can even be cheeky and knock a door if you see a nice one in someone's garden - I do this and people are only too happy to let you have a cutting, I have actually made some friends this way, though I guess I am pretty shameless lol.
  • I didn't mean to sound so negative. It's just that cuttings are so easy and quick. If you really want to have a go at Fuchsias from seed, you'll find some here http://www.victoriananursery.co.uk/garden_plants/fuchsia_seed/. They claim that you can get flowering plants the same season from seeds sown in May. I'd love somebody to give it a try, because I'm rather sceptical. Suttons, T&M and Unwins all have pelargonium seeds (as opposed to hardy geraniums). Good luck, whatever you decide.
