WINPLC.com and Ltext.com text scam

I like to keep things in writing - although to be fair, they way they have issued the refund is reasonably clever as they have not replied from the company email, made no admission of guilt and kept it all fairly cloak and dagger0

What really gets me is the number of people willing to let this go as soon as they get a refund. Pathetic. I never subscribed to any bloody service that WINPLC happen to be running, and I still don't know how they got my number. Like I said in previous posts, I believe my number was randomly generated. If not, then sold to them. Probably O2.I'm still going through Icstis and Ofcom with this thing, refund or not. Winplc told me too it was an accident, was Bulletin Wireless's fault, and that I could get a refund too, but so far I've seen/heard nothing. These crooks make a living by stealing from our phones and pretending that it was an accident when they get caught. If they were an honest company then why have they been fined so any times for text scam fraud? It's too late to start pretending now. If we don't act to prevent these companies from making money this way then the situation will just get worse. They treat us like fools. They rob everybody and then give those who complain a little sweet from the candy jar to soften them up.Well it ain't gonna work with me.0

I recently received a text with an apology saying the whole thing was an 'accident' and the offer of a refund. I have applied for the refund and noted at the bottom of my email that i did not want them to use my contact details for anything other than the refund offered. I was also thrown when I noticed the refund email was a yahoo.co.uk account and that I have still received no reply from WINPLC in regards to my email of complaint. I have written to my MP about my concerns in regards to how they were able to get hold of my contact details in the first place and the lack of available help with the problem. I suggest others do the same as the whole thing could happen again and we'd have to go through all this again unless more is done to stop these people.

Anyone looking for a refund, the number they would have texted you is just an automated message saying:
Please email your name, address and phone number to hightext1@yahoo.co.uk
I would also include a short sentence to the effect of: I do not wish my details to be used for anything other than the refund offered.0 -
I had the same problem where recently, I was billed £1.28 by a company only known as 85222.
Through phonepayplus I managed to find out that this 85222 company was...
WIN (Wireless Information Network) Ltd
1 Cliveden Office Village
Lancaster Road
High Wycombe
HP12 3YZ
01494 750 500
customerservices@winplc.com
I contacted a lady from WIN via the 01494 750 500 and explained my complaint to her where she explained that their WIN company only forwards the leads but she told me that the company sending me this interactive text was a company called Quiz Whiz.
She made sure that this company was blocked so that I won't receive any more texts.
Furthermore, she also gave me the telephone number of this Quiz Whiz company which is 0843 110 2500.
I spoke to a lady called Lara and she confirmed that it might have been a technical hitch and she arranged a refund for me and also sent me a comfirmation text that I will no longer get these interative message from them in the future.0 -
Hi there everybody :hello:
Just to let you know that I had this previously but I was told how to disable it , but I only know about vodafone.
Apparently i had subscribe to something via Vodafone Live and/or Vodafone interactive.
To disable it , put your sim in a slightly unmodernised phone , go to Vodafone live -> My account -> Manage subscriptions/ Alerts (something like that) -> And UN-TICK the box . Simple
It worked for me , It may work for other networks to in a similar way. By the way i say sort of old phone as the latest phones have there own full web browser which Vodafone live will not work on.
If you need any more help feel free to PM me if these instructions are unclear
Hope this helps
CLLC:dance: I am great , yes I am
:rotfl:If you think I was useful , Thank you, for thanking me

Hi All,
Just had the same scam, 3 text messages costing 4.50. Vodafone gave me the 0845 no. for this company, but they cut you off - so no chance of a refund.
I have put a premium rate text bar on my number.
I also explained to Vodafone that they are responsible for protecting consumers, they have paid this company for something I did not request, therefore they must remove the charges from my account. They did, and are apparently doing so for many people.
If only we had some kind of consumer vigilante group - under the radar and above the law - physical pain for these crooks...hmmmm0 -
I know! Lets give them lots of unsolicited mail!
Done some digging around, and a lot of this text scam stuff seems to point to WIN PLC - so here are their details:
The UK CEO is Graham Rivers and his PA is Alison Kay - her email is alisonkay@winplc.com
1 Cliveden Office Village
Lancaster Road
High Wycombe
Bucks HP12 3YZ
Tel + 44 (0) 1494 750500
Fax + 44 (0) 1494 750800
I've already told her to start looking for an other job as her employers are fraudsters and it won't be long before they are shut down. Please send lots of emails so they can get the picture! Oh, and if you drive past this office, bring eggs!0 -
I just searched for the number and found "Martin Bishop's Racing" using the same number?
I've had some "WIN" quiz question come through too, not for the first time. Again completely unsolicited billing, so yes, it's illegal. The number I'm supposed to call to report it is apparently:
0800 500212
They are only open mon-fri though 8am to 6pm so I'll wait until then, but I will highlight the illegal billing and get something done. If I don't see sign of action I'll get legal advice, or perhaps try the national press - they seem to be short on articles recently, and increase in fraud in this climite would prob go down well.0 -
I had something similar, and it was probably some dumb moron putting my number into a website instead of theirs cause the numbers were similar.
OP, what number did the text come from? Have you looked it up on ukphoneinfo.com? That should tell you who issued the number, and they can help you (if the sender's number is shown).0
