Hi,
When I was doing a virus scan on my computer yesterday Norton found "Winfixer" in a DVD Fab Decrypter file. This has now been deleted but does it also mean that the files installed for DVD Fab are also infected because they weren't listed by Norton as 'infected'?
Thanks0 -

Have a look at this thread for more help. It was put together by the techie experts.

The likelihood is that it won't remove Winfixer or Winfixer2006 but it will go a long way to cleaning your system.
At the end you copy & paste your HJT log to a new topic in this forum.
You will get advice on what to do from there.
Note ... the Vundofix is PART of the process to remove Winfixer. There will be other files etc. around your system that need manual removal once they have been identified.0 -

If you`re running XP turn off "system restore" before you run any of these programs.
Then run your anti-virus program (I use AVG) and try Vundo again.
Also run as suggested "Spybot" and "Adware",both free, search Google for them.
If none of this works come back and we`ll try something else.[/QUOTE
Thanks for your patience.
Turn off 'system restore' - I know how to do that, but anti-virus program? -
don't think I have one. I have the Windows 'security updates' weekly.
I managed ( all by myself,a miracle!) to get rid of When u. Removed 2 items I'd downloaded, Weathercast and Clock Sync. Then removed When u. So no more popups thank goodness.
PS Yes XP:grouphug: A smile, a 'please' and a 'thank you' cost nothing0 -

If you have`nt got anti virus running that could be the reason you`ve got a virus!
Follow Browntoa`s good advice and download AVG immediately and run it.
Also get a firewall called Zonealarm,also free.0 -
I had the same situation with winfixer followed the advice from this site and installed spybot not having any problems now! Here dead we lie because we did not choose

A BIG THANK YOU all.
Downloaded AVG - no virus found. Then turned off system restore. Then downloaded
ewido - 365 infections found!!!!! (1 for every day of the year!) Got rid of them.
Just have to do the 'run in safe mode' bit now, but the above have taken a couple of hours to complete, and I'm hungry!
Will come back later and see if comp is running better..........if not I'll be back to pester you with more problems.....I hope not.
Thank you all again for your solutions.

Something I always do now is delete all the cookies in the temporary internet folder and that seems to help. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
