scrapstores- good for crafters

Options
I don't know if this helps anyone, but i've been managing to get lots of crafty stuff including stuffing really cheap from my local scrap store in plymouth. Businesses and individuals can drop off unwanted stuff to be recycled and you join for a membership of £5 per year then pay just £1.50 for a carrier bag of whatever you want, ours has huge variety of things including fabric, thread ,wool, buttons etc all good for crafting could be worth trying to find out if there's one in your area? :)
There's all sorts of other things such as packaging from shops such as bodyshop which can easily be reused by covering over the brand name then putting in bits and bobs to make gift boxes/ hampers etc
It's a great way of being green and saving some money too!

For anyone in the plymouth area who doesn't know where ours is- it's at the bottom of union street in the Play association building next to Aldi.

  • There is one in Gloucester too at the old city works in Alfred Street. Unfortunately though it is more for community groups, Brownies, businesses, schools etc but may be of use to some groups with a limited budget.

Is from £18 per year membership then £10 a trolly. They also have lots of other paints and arty craft stuff for sale that seems a good price too.

We got lots of great stuff for work.....I work with adults with learning disabilities and they made all their own Xmas cards, pictures etc.

The Childrens Warehouse has been established to provide, assist or support the provision of quality creative play and environmental facilities for children and young people resident in the North of England, particularly but not exclusively in the Tyneside area, to promote the development of such children and young persons, in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential. The scrapstore provides an Alandin’s cave of resources from material’s collected from a variety of public and private sector sources that no longer want it – i.e. its their rubbish that would most likely be land filled but once returned to the scrap store it can made available for re-use.
