Temp. Car Insurance for Test Drive

We are planning to buy a used car (private) soon. As this would be my first car, I don't have any car insurance. I definetly would like to do a test drive, but I don't assume that the seller will expend his/her insurance on other people. That's why I am looking for temporary cover only for the test drive. Can anybody recommend a good/cheap insurance for this? Tempcover.co.uk quote 30 - 40 pounds for a day, which seems to much for me.
