months ago when there was news that energy prices were going up , there was a large thread on here with lots of people trying to get on the fixed tarrif at the last minute before it ended, i was one of those people, i have no idea what my energy rates are but was it a good move or are we paying more now ?

I'm not sure, I joined this and am going to chek this weekend when I have more time what i am paying. I'm sure I have to pay something like £60 to get out of it early but if its very dear might be worth it. I think mine finishes in November, it'll be just my luck to come out of it and prices will jump up again by then.0

i was not aware of a fee for coming out early0

I'm sure I read that somewhere when they sent my tariff, I think it was £30 for gas and £30 for leccy and I have both. I'll check this weekend.0

if it is the oct 2009 tarrif we joined then i can save £263 going to npower according to moneysupermarket.
however im not sure if they have recently brought down their prices and the rest have still to follow
so it looks like the panick on joining the fixed tarrif was a waste of money and not so good advice0 -
I know, I wish I had stayed with Eon now as was on a good tariff which you cant go back on once you come out of it, but Eons fixed one was more expensive than Scottish Power. I think Scottish Power are one of the more expensive ones now though.0

I signed up on this and have done price comparisons regularly. I've never found a tariff that's going to save me more than about £35. I think it's Eon that are on Quidco for £60 or £70 so I did look at that, as it would cover the exit penalty but I don't think it's worth the hassle to switch for less than a £30 saving yet.0

Just that after the Cashback has been paid you can then switch to SP for 62.00-72.00 depending on what the CB offer is on at that time, and then after that cashback has been paid you can switch again with cashback.0 -

Yes, you're right. I do switch regularly, but not frequently. I look on the cashback as a bonus rather than a reason for doing it, which, I suppose isn't very money-saving. Or at least not very money earning.0 -
The scottish power tariff that caused the panic closed in May 2008. It is called "fixed price energy" or "fixed price energy online". The energy prices are the same in both, but there is an extra annual discount of £15.75 if you took the online version.
If you do a price comparison on energyhelpline, you can check if that is your tariff when you reach the page with all the comparisons, you can see your own tariff details by clicking at the top of the page. The unit prices they show include the 5% VAT.
That tariff's prices are fixed till 28/2/2011, and that particular tariff doesn't seem to have any penalty for leaving early.0 -
I fixed early in Feb 08 the day BG increased their price. I am with Eon and they put their price up a few days after I fixed. I`m paying 3.63 and 2.45 for gas and 17.34 and 9.62 for electric until Oct 09. Hopefully prices wil reduce enough so that I don`t see a big jump when the fix finishes. There isn`t a charge to come out of it.0
