FREE Red Orange Juice at ASDA

In the Polish section of my local Asda there is a section of Costa Fruit juices at £1.05 and £1.06, depending on which flavour you get.

I noticed that on the Red Orange and the Apple packages it says "1 LITR GRATIS", but all the other flavours don't have the 1lt free on them.

Now I'm thinking, do ASDA assume that we Brits can't understand Polish and they hope that nobody complains or is it a genuine error in the buying/pricing department?

Either way I go to the CS Desk and say "I think that I have been overcharged for this item. I assumed that as it states that it is 1Lt free, I thought that I would get a saving of 53p at the checkout.

Anyway the CS tries to fob me off by saying that that is how we buy them in and here is nothing that we can do about it.

I then point out that this is against the law and I'm sure that Trading Standards would be very interested in this.

She gets on the phone and explains to the Manager and she said that there is obviously an error somewhere and she was to offer me my money back whilst keeping the item.

I say thank you very much and take my juice and £1.06 refund and say that as I have free drink, I won't be pressing for a £2.00 voucher. However when I come back tomorrow and they are still at the same price, then I will buy the whole shelf and demand a refund again and press for a £2.00 voucher for each item.

I am assuming that as they have already confirmed a misprice by refunding me, then they won't have a leg to stand on in the morning?

The item in question is Costa Czerwone Pomarancze 2L. (Costa Red Orange Juice) - Item No: 590050002335.

Fill your trolleys, drink, enjoy and discuss away.

I think you only get a £2 voucher per overpriced product, rather than for each item, don't you?

Anyway, the product isn't supposed to be half price, just 100% extra free. So it's just that the apple and the red orange are more expensive than the others.

You could also argue that you understand it to be buy one get one free if they are 1litre cartons ;)

But he said it was 2l cartons...

If it says 1l free and it's 2l, I would assume it's the equivalent of our '100% extra free' offers, so the shop hasn't done anything wrong.
  • I was told the £ 2 gift card was stopped few months ago when they ovey charged me the egg that i bought.

They are all 2litre containers and the Orange, Blackcurrant, Exotic Fruits, Apple & Grape are £1.05, it is just the Apple 2l and Red Orange 2l that are 1.06.

If they are 1 litre free then they should either offer a 1l version which you get free or reduce the 2l to 53p.

You don't honestly think that Red Orange and Apple versions should be £2.12 normally!!!

Not necessarily. There's no rule that says stuff in that situation must be half the price of other flavours - indeed they could easily argue that without the special offer the apple and red orange ones would cost much more than the other ones. I admit it seems unlikely, but I don't think there's much you can do as it's perfectly possible.

They only had 2l versions for all flavours.

Maybe the others had a litre free too, but they just didn't say so?
