PAYG - The best way to upgrade a handset ??
My girlfriend uses O2 Pay as you go and I was trying to find the best way of getting her a decent phone at the lowest cost. I was told that if she switched to Orange she could get a clamshell phone for £80 but if she wanted to keep her mobile number it would cost about another £70.
Is the solution getting the phone at the lower price, retaining her current sim card and then once we have the phone unlocking it and putting in the current O2 sim card??
Can this be done?? Is there a smarter alternative??

If you want a brand new phone rather than from ebay, http://www.tescomobile.com/prod_list.aspx?pc=5&tc=14&us=1&h=1 are doing some good deals.
I.e.
Nokia 3100 £59.97
Nokia 3200 Camera Phone £79.97
Sony Ericsson T610 Camera Phone £89.97
Tescomobile piggy back on the O2 signal, so there would be no need to unlock the phone and your Girlfriends O2 sim would work fine in the phone. However they are offering some cheap Nokia phones which can be easily unlocked see https://www.unlockme.co.uk
However you will tend to always get them cheaper on Ebay but just have your wits about you. I have been lucky and haven’t had to much trouble on Ebay, 95% of all transactions go smoothly but there are some charlatans out there

Just bought her a Samsung X450 from Tesco's at £79.99.
A nice little phone with the bonus of keeping her old number.
I hate getting ripped off and now I have peace of mind that I haven't paid over the odds.
Thank you all so much for taking the time to respond.something missing0 -
I Sold a NEW K700i Simfree on ebay recently for £190, I think the cheapest retail price is about £270.
The price range is 150 to 200 so a discount on chepeast retailer of between 44% to 25%.0
