Jackie, if you explain why you'd be grateful for some samples and give them some labelled plastic bags they can write the name of the breed the clipping came from, I'm sure they'd be delighted. Dog clippers tend to be very nice and helpful people in my experience.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • be aware tho, that while one poodle ( for instance may be ok ) a different one may not be
  • You could foster a dog to see how it goes, tell the children that you are (truthfully!) looking after it for someone else so they're not allowed to get too attached!

In fact - if you're in Surrey I know of a lovely dog that needs some people time (owner is fairly recently widowed and works full time so poor doggy probably gets very lonely during the day and owner doesn't want to but feels she has to rehome the dog - but a fostering situation would be ideal)

Anyone got more info on fostering dogs?
:heart2: Give blood. :female: Use a mooncup.
But ensure the two are not connected!

    Hi There,

Sadly no where near Surrey im afraid.

My mum and Dad have jack Russells, and hes allergic to them, so, they are out im afraid.

My neighbour has a shuit zu (sorry I know this isnt the correct spelling, and if I spell it the way I say it, it will come out as a rude word lol), could try him next to that (thats the one he is always looking at over the fence), and see if he is okay with that, however, im afraid that type of dog isnt one I would be looking at. I will ask her for the number of her dog groomer, and give them a call to get samples.

I have a cockapoo - he is a cross between a cocker spaniel and a minature poodle - and basically just looks like a curly spaniel. He does not moult and apparently is a good choice for people that suffer with allegies. I know someone who has his older brother and she allowed a family to visit their dog as their son suffers from allegies and they wanted to see if he would react to their cockapoo and they had no problems and have since gone on to buy the same type of dog ! I think tho like someone mentioned in an earlier post about labradoodles this can never be 100% certain , it can depend on each litter and even individual dogs in the litter.

good luck with your search !

I'm allergic to cats and dogs. When I end up living with cats I have allergies for some time. I ended up coming home with a kitten from school last July and was quite wheezy, sneezy and snuffly for some time. It's now gone. (The allergy not the cat lol!). I personally get used to animals after a couple of months.

  • Schnauzers are also non shedding dogs and come in thre sizes, the miniature is a lovely type of dog and loves kids, is keen to learn and is easy to look after, though they do need to be clipped and groomed. standards are bigger, but are notoriosly stubborn and are a dog for experienced owners and giants are used as police dogs in Germany! so need authorative handling and are again only for experienced owners. I got into mini schnauzers as they look like 'proper' dogs' as my macho OH didn't want to be seen with a 'fluffy little dog' he now adores them as they have so much character and are fun loving and active.
  • just bear in mind that not all dogs of the same breed are the same re: alergies - in a litter of labradoodles about 1/3 will still trigger fur allergies and all will trigger dander (skin flake) allergies - and I guess you do not know for sure which one of these it is that actually affects your son?

Also, be aware that puppies coats are different from an adult dogs coat, so until they are about ten months old you cannot know for sure whether that dogs adult coat will be ok with your son - gatting a mature dog would be the only sure fire way I think!

Please have a look at this website, and read the 'allergy myth'!

There are several breeds that do not shed hair so you could go for one of those. My daughter has an allergy to pet hair so we got a Bengal because they do not shed hair and my daughter is fine around them.
  • I have always heard that Schnausers were unlikely to cause allergies at all. And they are available as minature or giant breeds!
A thought though; I wonder if since there was a dog in the house when your son was small, he may be okay with dogs, the allergy may be caused by different things! He will have had a degree of contact with dogs as a baby whether the dog was near him or not. This should have helped him with antibodies.
How does he actually react with this allergy? Is there a reason why you think it is particularly dogs?

    Just a thought?
