Funny that Maisie - I've made all the plays and sports days and would never, ever dream of missing one. That's why I work part-time to fit around them.

I'm sure my financial wealth is far, far less than yours, and probably always will be, I'll probably always live in a smaller house and my children will have far less of the trappings of wealth than yours have (well, they don't do too badly, actually - very generous grandparents and great-grandparents).

We each made our choices, and I'm happy with mine as I'm sure you are with yours.

But you weren't examining and criticising my ideas as you so grandly and pompously put it.

I didn't see the point of repeating yet again the fact that people in the biggest houses are the least likely to be in debt in the post that you nitpicked at because it would have been tedious and pointless to do so. You and I had already established that we were in agreement on that. So how exactly were you examining and criticising my ideas?

The main thrust of the post that you criticised was that people in 3 bed houses or smaller are more likely to be in debt than those in larger houses and that is my best guess as to why those houses are losing value more quickly. If you had wanted to "examine" and "criticise" my ideas it might have been more useful if you had actually come up with some sort of response to that.

Sometimes people on here nitpick and take the mickey out of people for poor spelling, grammar, sentence construction etc and I don't have a problem with that (even if it's directed at me believe it or not) if it's done with wit, which it often is.

I'm not saying that every post has to be made with the sole purpose of furthering the debate but if you are going to nitpick at least do so with wit and a bit of self awareness. Then you would be entertaining people rather than boring them and making yoursef look like a very feeble point scorer.

    What a silly post.

Are you not capable of reading back a few posts, or do I really have to repeat everything for you.

I HAD ALREADY ANSWERED YOUR POINT:

"I don't know whether that means some of the 3 bed house owners are also downsizing - after all, not everyone ends up in 4 bed plus - or, more likely, that they've built up plenty of equity and so can afford to take some of the hit, whilst the people they're selling to largely haven't. People in 4 beds are usually only selling to those with large existing equity so have felt less need to reduce." - post 54.

Bother to read before you criticise others for failing to "examine" and "criticise".

Otherwise you just mske yourself look very stupid indeed.

And unable to take or deal with criticism.

    fully agree with you carolt.

One quick question. Has your partner made every play. sports days activities etc?

Sometimes unfotunate as it is, a decision to earn the family money can affect whether both the parents can make every event

I know some that work on an offshore rotation that don't see the family for 2 weeks, but then gets extra time when they have 3 weeks off.
If he worked elsewhere, he may only see the children at the weekend meaning he is better off with the 4 weeks condensed

I already said we were basically in agreement before you posted asking me if people in bigger houses were immune to the 3 Ds.

So I had read the posts.
  • Ok Edinburgh,

And not from memory ;), If you check this link, you will see that each year there was drops, it recovered the following year.
    13.46% increas in 1989
    14.60% increase in 1990
Largest drop was in 1997 of 4.21%, sandwiched between 12.98% and 8.57% rises

    http://www.hbosplc.com/economy/includes/19_01_08PostTownsData3.xls

If you don't like Scotland, how about Aberdare, Mid-Glamorgan. Wales
    dropped 11.23% in 1992 and recovered 21.66% in 1993

But even better, looking at England, how about Barnsley
Dropped in 1992, 1994, 1997 and 2000, each following year recovered to a higher average price.

Now I'm not going through the whole spreadsheet for you ;)

GDB2222, Any comments on the above data?

Not that it's a major sin to post on a thread without reading every post in minute detail, nor is it in indication of stupidity. Not everyone has the time to do that and it shouldn't prevent them from being allowed to express their opinion.

I think it's a bit below the belt of you to imply that Maisie is less of a mother than you because she chose to work full time. Would you be saying that to her if she didn't live in a big house with a good buffer of equity? I somehow doubt it.

You want to start a working mums vs stay at home mums debate go on one of the mums websites.

I can't be bothered to say any more on this as it must be making very dull reading for everyone else on the thread.

Apologies, I must have that point when it was originally made. Is it proven fact that people in 3 bed houses are likely to be in more debt than those in larger places? It seems quite strange to me if that is the case.

I realise that a disproportionate number of the people who inherit a large amount of money are likely to live in larger houses with no debt, but it is not a particularly large cross section of the population.
