Rented rooms in Leyton, East London, advice needed

-
Very big difference between Council House and Housing Association.
You still have the problem of the dog.
Bit of a pointless thread really after all that!
the thread wasnt about the house my boyfriend's giving up, i was asking for advice as to where to find cheap rooms to rent. i dont have the problem of the dog at all, his daughter does!0 -
His kids are going to really love you!
They will see it as you depriving them of their home; enticing him away to buy a place together with no room for them!
well we are buying a 3 bed specifally so they have somewhere to stay, i have offered for them to come with us but considering they live, work and study in london, they are not attracted to the idea of moving to the kent coast!!!!0 -
If they were going to rent a room all bills inclusive, pets would be a problem. The majority of houseshares do not accept people with pets.
Some sites you might want to check out to help your search:

For Leyton area you would be looking at circa £90 for a small-ish room, double room is about £120~£130 per week. I think you would also be hard-pushed to find a place with 2 spare rooms in the same house.
Kent isn't that far from London, I know people who live in Kent and commute to London daily. I'm guessing if the kids do move out, you might find them wanting to move in with you and your partner once they realise how expensive it is being independent in London on a low wage.0 -
i will have a look at those sites thanks
we are moving about 2 hours from london, i would dread to think what it would cost in train fares!!!!!0 -
hmmm its 366 a month for the train fare, not quite as much as i thought, but whereas my boyfriend lets them live at home for nothing, i wouldnt, so they would have to pay us housekeeping and i wouldnt think that 250pcm would be too extreme so i think its probably cheaper overall for them to live in london. as far as i know their reaction to living in the 'middle of nowhere' as they put it, was not favourable!!!0

The OP has said they are adults and don't pay rent. No wonder they'll be concerned but this might just be the kick up the bum they need to get on with their lives!Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -
its funny you say that, because that is exactly the language my boyfriend uses!!! he wants them to be independent, he is worried they are too reliant on him,,,, the times we have argued about it because i have given in to the temptation to inform him that they are like that because HE made them like that!!!!0

well luckily due to an indulgent dad, they have all the techie stuff they need, computers, telly, phones etc so i really wouldnt anticipate them needing stuff and anything they want can be for christmas or birthdays. the daughter was given a car by her grandad recently, nothing special 10 year old basic micra, but a free car nonetheless and dad paid for the 1500 insurance, my suspicions are that she will not be able to keep this up come next years insurance unless she takes on a weekend job or something. i have suggested this but im told by boyfriend that i have a puritan work ethic!!!!
he has a 3rd child, a youngest son who is at university, already run out of loan and parent money, refuses to get a job,,,,, arrrrrgggghhhhh0 -
£250 a month when you know that they will have travel costs of £366! I would see that as an attempt to push them out of the door. It can't possibly cost you an extra £500 a month to have them living with you, so you really would be profitting out of them.
I know I'm over indulgent, but I would always want my kids to feel that there is a place for them to live at home.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. i wouldnt see it as charging for what they cost, but getting them used to paying their way in socieity, something they have never been used to. none of them ever had a saturday job, never used to savings, no understanding of paying their way. i was out of home by 18, i had been working part time since 14 (saturday and evening jobs), bought my place when i was 24.
i did return home for one year when i was 23 due to suspected cancerous tumour (turned out benign) but during that year when my income was a take home of 800 pcm and i paid 250pcm to live at home and thats about 13 years ago!!!! i think that would be cheap for nowadays0
