Dreaded Tiscali

Hi there,

Just a question about the dreaded Tiscali.
I have just cancelled them, and had some money refunded into my bank, and was assured that it is really cancelled. I have e-mailed them to say that the broadband is still working! They were suppose to phone for a date to pick up the router, but still no phone call, the last time i called, the guy said, well according to his computer, i should not have any bb,as it is cancelled.
Will they try to go into my bank account and take out money again? I have already cancelled the direct debit, but heard that it could happen, anyone had this happen before?
Thankk

  • IMO Tiscali have some of the worst customer services available and none of the various departments seem to talk to one another. My advice would be clarify your position in writing and ask them to confirm their position in writing and then act accordingly. Send your mail recorded delivery to stop the 'we never had it' before it starts and if you don't get a reply or anything coherent, raise the issue with their customer service department manager, again all in writing. If no joy there (and we didn't get any), call or write to OFCOM.

In the end they stepped in and threatened Tiscali with a fine unless they adressed our problems.........:mad:

    Good luck though!

Yes - that's happened to me before (not with Tiscali, though). I went to my bank and said that I'd like my money back. Initially I was told it had already been paid - nothing they could do. I reminded them that I had cancelled the Direct Debit, therefore the deduction was unauthorised, tantamount to theft, and told them "This is not negotiable. Either return my money immediately or I will sue you to recover my funds, report you to the police, the FSA and anyone else I can think of.". They refunded the money there and then.

Tiscali are pretty poor though. It was a good service... until something went wrong and you need to speak to someone. Their technical support team didn't know the difference between "uploading" and "downloading", thought I was referring to international travel when I threatened to "migrate my account to another provider" and said the only way I could change the account holders name was to cancel my account and sign up again. I took that opportunity to leave them!
  • I just got off the phone with Tiscali as I am moving povider. We have been with them for years and years and were paying for 1mb line, which was top option when we subscribed. When they upgraded to 8, we were charged more per month for 1MB than new customers who subscribed to 8MB. When asked for ours to be upgraded (and price brought down), they said that we can only do that if we take Tiscali Talk as well. We didn't want a hassle of no internet, but got an offer through BT, so decided to do it now.
I was on the phone on hold for 35 minutes before the first person answered and then all of the sudden it would be possible to change to 8MB! No, thank you!
