is my Gas bill correct@ £556.56
Hi all, i'm a little confused with my bill from British Gas - I have a two bedroom house and my Gas bill came to £556.56.
On the bill it states:
1310 metric units used over 93 days
Gas units converted = 14652.17 used over 93 days
first 686.00 kWh x 7.203p
>£49.20
next 13969.17 kWh x 3.632p
>£507.36
Total cost of gas used £556.56
Does this seem correct to you ladies/gents?
Hope you can help -
Cheers

Yes - assuming you have a metric meter. Are they actual (A) meter readings, or is one or both estimated (E)?0

Thanks for the swift response - I just had a quick look to see if the meter is Met or Imp, it shows m3 so looks Metric....
Coming to the readings, the 1st reading is correct the second one is the e, but I had a look at actual reading is slightly higher by like 20 or so, so its going to be more £
I just had a look at the conversation and it looks correct:
1310 x 39.3741 x 1.0226400 / 3.6 = 14652.17
I'm just, well shocked at the bill... wow0 -
Our gas for December came to £100 - I read our meters every week and enter the readings online every month so I know where I am. Do you know why you are using so much? It has been cold but you seem shocked - I wonder if you have a large house, like it very warm or have just been caught out by the price hikes?0

You are using 14.086 units/day. It really depends on how many hours/day your heat is on and how many hours/day the hot water is on. My first hour (heat and water) uses about 2 units. The next hour and on I use only about 1 unit/hour for heat only, no water. I have a very old boiler (20yrs) and a very inefficient energy house.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0

Just a quick calculation based on ebico's flat rate for gas of 3.77p per kWh gives a small saving, but with your high usage I'm sure you could get more substantial savings elsewhere."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -

Is your meter Metric or Imperial?
Must compare like with like. That is why it is better to use kWhs rather than units.0 -
Or you could try an online tariff - you get discounts for having paperless billing! This would also able you to pop meter readings in as you pleased without having to ring up an automated service or wait on hold for ages!!0

Sorry, I was speaking in metric units i.e. 1 unit = 11.109847 gas in kwh. My usage used to be about the same as the OP, which is why I suspect he is using a lot more than he should. 2 Dec 2005 - 6 Mar 2006 (94 days), I used 1,422 metric units. I have since reduced that usage for the same time periods to about 7/8 units/day or less than 800 units for the quarter.FREEDOM IS NOT FREE0 -
Arf, yesterday I signed up to a website called imeasure, its a great way to kepp a check on your usage.
I actually came on here because I was having a bit of a panic because last night I measured how much gas my heating was using, & in 15mins, we had used 0.6 of a m3. This means 2.4m3 p/h, which seemed like a helluva lot.
We were using 3 units a day, but National Grid came & changed our meter & we now seem to be using more gas, up to 5.5 units.
I have a brand new economical boiler, insulation, the thermostat at 17 degrees & just 5 rads in a 2 bed semi. We only have heating on for about 1.5 hrs a day, plus 2 showers. Does this sound about right?0
