Haha! Don't blame you!! Just to let you know, my grandad lives in Spain and he says elec bills are HUGGGGEEEEE where he lives so strike that one off your list :D

I think I might also emigrate! What are you studying? I study History, so not really a 'useful' degree (as my parents put it anyway!).

Engineering and moving to Australia. Having to wait till then so I have enough points for my visa.

See! A useful degree. If only I'd been cleverer as a child! I hope it works out for you :)
  • I got a statement from Scottish Power a few weeks ago to say that my account was in credit by £7 and I do not need to take any action on my current payments (by monthly d/d). I was quite happy although I was paying £81.50 for combined gas/elec. Ive just checked my bank statement and they've taken £109 this month with no letter/explantion/warning, nothing!! Surely they should have advised me of this increase? Im in 2 bedroom lower cottage flat with my toddler son (single parent), Does this sound right?
This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man. (SHAKESPEARE, Hamlet, 1600) :kisses2:

Comp wins : Oct : Michael Buble goodies :blushing:
Nov: jar of Baxters red slaw deli toppers

The increase sounds a little high but fair, depending on how much you're likely to use in the next couple of months. Not notifying you is not right - often it's in small print somewhere, maybe when they advised you that you need do nothing.

unless you can get solar panels such as the alps where my sis nearly got 100% grant for having them installed and bought!!!
also with rgards to scottish power. our bill went from 49 to 79 to 105 now. just checked online and npower seems to be slightly cheaper to go with but sounds like they have a lot of issues of over charging.

  • I thought my increase was bad, from £72 to £90, but after reading these posts, I realise it could have been worse. I have a 3 bed home, but only 2 of us living here most of the time.

They tried to put mine up from £92 to £106 which would have been third rise in a row. I'm in credit from last bill. I sent them a complaint and they've agreed to keep it as it was. They weren't very nice about it though!
  • I viewed my online account last week and I was £388 in credit having paid my last bill in Oct for £89, my meter reading was due on Friday so I entered them onto the account.
Looked online again today and had the shock that I was now £116 in debit...
I paniced thinking that there must be a mistake and gave them a call, the bill details said from18/04/08 to 28/01/09 thats 9 months but I last paid in October ?.
The lady... was not helpful in the least and would not let me get my point acroos and i was vertually bullied into raising my direct debit from 88.50 to 110 a month or clear it there and then. I came off the phone feeling very upset.
