Ebayer wanting Refund

Just a question as I have never come across this bfore.
I have sold an item one stated underline that it is for one item only and at the bottom put no refunds as item is fully described and picture taken. This person has bought it and now wants a refund as she thought it was for two. There is a typo which says 'I am selling these'. However it clearly does say that the auction is for one.
She has emailed me saying I sure a paypal dispute will go in her favour as my listing description was misleading - how can it be when I have specifically stated it's for one.
I'm sick of ebay and paypal, so thinking about closing the accounts anyway. Any experts on paypal?

The photos did have a picture of two rings to show the writing on the reverse side (buyers can see the front and the back) this is why I made sure I stated and underline that is was for ONE onlyTopCashback £1792.63My Little World0

Paypal are likely to tell the buyer to return the items, with tracking, for a full refund. Once the buyer puts in the tracking number on the dispute, it will be automatically refunded when it shows delivered back to you.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0

If the buyer isn't happy, ask them to send it back and you will refund on receipt.
You can then relist it and correct the typo so there can be no confusion next time.
Common sense would say that the buyer should have assumed there was only one item if it was specifically stated. You may even win a PayPal claim on this basis (who knows?) but if you offer to take the item back you may find the buyer suddenly can't be bothered with the hassle of returning it and will leave you alone - in which case they were almost certainly angling after a partial refund.0 -
Thanks for your replies. I'm just a bit peeved that because of her stupidity I have to sort out a refun when I also state that no refund would be given. Would a paypal case go in my favour do you think as everything I look at on the net seems to say that the buyers always winsTopCashback £1792.63My Little World0

Tricky one imo - the picture sounds missleading and I suspect many buyers, particularly last minute, go by the picture rather than the description.
I guess you could argue either way whether thats their silly fault or its reasonable to assume that what is pictured is what you get.
Paypal will insist that the item is returned at the buyers expense, via trackable mail.
Was the item valuable and easily sellable. If not valuable, then it may not be worth the buyers cost in returning, or perhaps you could come to a partial refund arrangement.
If its something that is quite marketable, then you may be better allowing the refund and re-listing in an "idiot proof" (no offence implied to the buyer) manner.0 -
If you don't do refunds, then ebay and paypal isn't the place for you. You can put what you like in your listing, it won't override the rules you sign up for when you join though.0

It's one thing saying you won't refund if the buyer isn't happy with the item, eg it doesn't fit them snugly, they change their mind, clashes with another ring, or all the other silly reasons someone may come up with if they are buying from a mail order catalogue.
But if the wording of your auction was ambiguous (due to the typo you mentioned) and the picture showed two items, even though you have stated that there is only one item, it could send out mixed signals.
Yes, the buyer is being a bit dim, and should have read your listing properly. But perhaps you need to accept the blame is 50/50 on this one, take it back, and put it down to experience. You never know, if you relist it, it might go for more second time round!0 -
Thank you all for your replies. I haven't heard anything since earlier today, I suspect they are waiting the seven days to which they can then open the dispute or forget about it. It was a lot more expensive than what they paid (double). If they end up opening a dispute I will offer a refund less my fees from paypal and ebay.TopCashback £1792.63My Little World0

If they open a dispute and you loose they can make you refund in full.
However if it said one item on the listing then imo Paypal wont decide against you whatever the photo showed. The item description is what matters most.0
