  • Will the new Visa Debit cards still be cheque guarantee cards too?
  • am i the only one whose First Direct card has had the colour from the numbers and the words first direct come off? i have a completely black card expect for the maestro symbol.

Some of my numbers have had the silver rubbed off, but my first direct is still there, its just the chip thats very scratched

That hasn't happened to mine. How long have you had the card? Was it issued since they dropped the HSBC red logo and turned the words "first direct" on their side and put them in the middle of the card, so you have to turn the card clockwise to read it?

Mine is the previous design which says first direct in the top left hand corner, followed by the HSBC logo. The design seems to be imprinted into the card, there is nothing to rub off. If you have the newer design the words may be printed onto the surface of the card.
  • it is the newer card. i don't know if is intentional.

Thanks all. My mother was getting quite upset about this, plus the fact that nobody in her branch seemed to know anything about it.

BrucieBonus, we did see DEBIT on the top. It was the word VISA on the bottom of the card that sort of hinted it was a VISA Card

Oh dear-how many branches read their circulars and hot topic screens!!??

Not many it seems-glad I have seen the light to be fair (see signature)

It was mentioned a few months ago and there had been briefings of the changes. All HSBC cards are being changed to VISA with effect from this year. Cheque Guarantee Cards are staying but only for Advance Account, HSBC Plus and Premier Accounts (with only HSBC Premier accounts qualifying for the £250 cheque guarantee limits) everyone else will have £100 CG limits.

The changes will eradicate complaints about usage in other countries.

Visa Debit cards, including the HSBC and First Direct ones, certainly do still show your account number and sort code. They are not part of the long number across the middle of the card as before, but they are shown at the bottom of the card just above your name (underneath your name with some banks).

So they are going like Barclays Connect Visa's then.
