The internet is overrated IMO.0

I get just over 2Mbps. Can I expect it to increase in the next few years? I'm going to feel a bit ripped off at paying 6 extra earth pounds and not getting anything from it, when loads of other countries would offer 20 times that speed as standard.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0

Point the finger of blame squarely at BT with their monopoly of the market using antiquated copper (read: wet string) which means you've got to be within spitting distance of an exchange to get a half-decent speed. We are well behind many other countries which have been using fibre for years.
I'm in a well populated area of Huddersfield but it's 3.5 miles from the (only) BT exchange and so broadband is half meg at best with 99% of the ISPs as they all use BTs lines. Thankfully we have NTL here too with their fibre and I'm able to get up to 50 meg but many areas aren't so lucky...
Don't hold your breath for BT to replace their wet string with fibre if you're not in a heavily populated area..
