Help with note from Doctor

Hi,

Hoping you can settle a 'disagreement' for me.

I got a note from doctor as I am going to appeal about my benefits being stopped and it says little and is of no use at all. I wasnt charged for this. The support worker that I went to see today says that he is going to write to my doctor today and offer him money to write a better one - he says that they do get paid to write notes.

Is this correct. Do the doctors get paid to write letters like that? My mum disagrees with the whole situation and doesnt want it to happen - by that she doesnt want the support worker to get in touch with the doctor!

Your doctors may be different, but my doctors surgery policy is they don't write letters of support for anybody. If they do it for one they have to do it for all even those they do not agree with. Which I think is fair enough.
    Good luck though.

A very good point. Even if you pay a doctor to write a letter how can you be sure he will say what you want him/her to?
I know doctors charge for private sickness certificates.
  • I know there is a note in my doctors surgery stating that there is a charge for a letter from the doctor. Seems like common practice now.

Thats what I thought. Its just that he is saying that I have got CFS, is referring me to a CFS clinic but isnt exactly saying anything in the letter!

My GP charges about £10. What you could do is ask to see the letter before its sent to the person and before you pay for it.

I actually pick the letter up from the GP surgery - and read it!

He could write a near identical letter to the other people acting on your behalf.

My gp charges £35 for letters, & more for filling out medical reports for insurance purposes & such things.

Could your support worker not write a letter for your appeal in support of your claim? Then perhaps this, along with the letter you have from your gp stating you have cfs & are waiting for a referral may be good enough for the appeal?
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.
