Selling unwanted contract phones
If I get one of the 12 month free deals (eg Nokia 6030) and then decide to imediately sell on this phone and use the new contract SIM in my existing phone, how do I de-couple any connection of the phone with me, and/or does it matter?
For example would the IMEI number of the phone still be registered with me?
Are there any (other) possible implications?

The phone is yours to do with as you wish. Of course you are absolutely liable for all of the payments on the contract you took.
Many people do exactly as your are suggesting, including myself.
You need do nothing regarding de-coupling yourself from the IMEI number. These numbers are not registered to individuals.0
