I think you've just summed up what I've been ranting about for around 8 posts in one, nice succinct post.

    I should learn that skill.

I was just dead tired and had to get my head down at that point, but I wanted to leave some comment. I'm a big admirer of PN, and a few others, who can sum things up very smartly. Quite often, I bang-on a bit too.

Now I've woken up again, it looks like everyone else has knocked-off!

Where's Davesnave when you need him?

    Asleep!!!

But I agree that it doesn't look like 'any old cafe' at all. Mind you, I live in another tourist town, so my take on prices, to be fair, is going to be similar to yours.

    Hey subman,

Thanks for your posts - I posted in another thread in defence of Subway / Starbucks etc. - couldn't live without either at the moment.

Anyway, i've got a major gripe with Subway at the moment that is really stopping me from going more often - and that is your employees cutting short the amount of time products are supposed to spend in the microwave / toaster - either because they are busy and trying to get through customers - or because they have got bored waiting.

The Mega Breakfast is the worst for this, as the sausages and omelette are frequently served hot on the outside but stone cold in the middle - and I have watched employees time and time again select the correct preset, and then cancel often with 30 seconds to go. The same with toasting - 20 seconds lets the cheese melt nicely, but cut it short at 15 and the result is not the same at all.....!

I agree about the breakfast rolls. I had a Subway bacon roll - never again. I think in another thread (or maybe this one) a poster claimed that the meat in Subway sarnies is imported from abroad. Can you tell us where it comes from, Subman?

im sorry but microwaving breakfasts is really not acceptable to me- urgh cold premade scrambled egg! How much is this out of interest?

Maybe im a purist, but a cooked breakfast is a major meal, something to be savoured. Id sooner spend a tenner on a cooked breakfast that someone had made for me on order than a microwaved one or one sat under bright lights for heavens knows how long from anywhere ( I include works canteens, airport "resturaunts" service stations etc. Sadly many london independents will also batch cook the bacon and microwave it later- no thanks.

.Ive had some of my best cooked breakfasts from cafes in stockport! But Ive always asked for extra something other than the sausage.

The mcdonalds bacon rolls are vile as well. That bacon  I took it back & got a refund :money:
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

If it's a pig product (bacon, ham) then J Oliver did a programme recently on pig production. Subway will be selling the lowest grade pig products, so, the lovely Jamie will show you how they are reared.

Bills in Lewes / Brighton only uses organic, outdoor reared pig products, so, I guess that's the reason for the difference in the price we choose to pay.

I don't disagree at all, but Subway caters for people that want something cheap and substantial rather than being too worried about how "genuinely" good it is - although it's nice if it's served hot :D

I have a Mega Breakfast most Thursdays as I don't like the BMT (which is Thursday's sub of the day), but it doesn't really look like breakfast by the time i've finished - jalapeños, carrots etc. got to be a good 3 of my 5 a day :T

It's just not practical or economical for me to shop / store the sort of ingredients that I would need to get the same varied diet and nutrition that I get by going to Subway each day.

It's all about margin, profit, cutting costs to get the stuff into your hand, and your cash in the till.

Subway peddle food that, most of time, shouldn't be allowed to be labelled food (just like Tesco, Asda et al).

Don't kid yourself that Subway give a fig about their customer base (it's all about the ££££ that ends up in their corporate pocket).....just read a few posts up...it's not about the food, it's about The Power of The Brand.

We heard it here, in person, from...SubMan.

 I truly think I am turning into crazee person now...

A few days on the Oldstyle board will get you sorted...Subway peddles nutritionally deficient food.
I got flamed for promoting Felicity Lawrences books by Starbuckman...then he deleted the post. Trust me, if you read her first, you won't go in Subway anymore.

To be honest, I only really go to Subway for the carbs (bread) - no hydrogenated fats in Subway bread anymore - and the vegetables - I have so much salad and veg they have trouble closing the sandwich sometimes.

I couldn't care less what's in the meat, or to be honest how it's been produced. I think it's more cruel to breed a free range chicken and then kill it than to have one stuffed up in a coop that actually wants to die. Unless someone can prove to me without corporate sensationalism and beyond reasonable doubt that there is something in there my system can't process I'll carry on going!
