Between my wife and I we have lived in London, Zurich, Prague, Sydney, a few other parts of the UK and now Paris. We never use the term "emigrating" as its an emotive and dangerous state of mind that can lead to feelings of homesickness and isolation. Better to think of going on an adventure that may or may not last a while. Having said that, France is wonderful and our pick of the bunch. After one or two more adventures we plan to end up back here!

Ahhh....I'm not very close to my family and hardly ever see my friends (we are the internet generation) so it doesn't bother me. I hate where I live and have no plans to return when I go next time. Fortunately, DH feels the same (except he's closer to his family than I - but still rarely sees them). I moved off to the USA on my lonesome and would have stayed far longer where it not for lack of jobs and visas. Now I'm with my DH and he's the only one I ever miss. No real ties which makes life an adventure!

I don't really feel like I have a home iyswim. Thats what I'm searching for I guess. :)

    SEAREOUSLY p**ssed off

Had my salary review today following my completion of AAT.

    Not the £4k I expected, a pathetic £1k.

I know some people out there will say "at least you still have a job". But that is not the point
Over the past year I have worked really hard. I now for a fact I do far I'm making.
more than is expected. We have an appraisal system in place where you are scored between 1 and 5. 3 being the expected.

    I got a 5!
    Stay late
    Come in early
    Ahead of targets
Simply work at a much higher level than is expected

So, very simply I feel I am not paid enough for what I do.

At the moment, all my motivation has gone and I quite simply cannot be bothered. Might as well just turn up at 9 and leave at 5:30 - the hours I'm contracted to do.

Wooah! That is annoying but you're right - at least you do have a job. And you got a pay rise - that's awesome in the current climate. Do you know your companys financial situation? Where/how are they reducing costs? What did other people get? Why did you expect 4k, what was the basis of that? Do you understand your career progression? What is the salary banding (if they have it)? What are the criteria for salary reviews? etc etc. I've been in the same position and you need to try and understand whether they might compensate you in other ways.

Do the company value coming in early and staying late? I've worked for places where that is seen as a negative quality.

Feeling is no reason for getting a pay rise - you need to provide evidence!

    Cheer up mate.

All this preparation will pay dividends in the future, and it may not be with your current employer.

At your young age you have already achieved on 2 fronts (academic and mortgage reduction) whilst holding down a full-time job.

Get your Chartered Accountant exams/experience while you can and you will hopefully open doors for yourself in the future.

Couple of points to note here:

    1) this has seen us drop through the £130k mark :j which means we have beaten our target of £130k by 01.11.2009 in line for my 21st birthday on 17.11.2009
    2) as per a previous post, I have set a new target of £128k by 01.12.2009 to be in line with the start of the MF3T2 challenge. I have done some projections forward, considering I need to repay ~£1,380 of stoozed money by 01.11 and the extra OPs needed to meet the target amounting ~£1,050 I need to find a total of £2,430 for 1st of Oct, Nov and Dec. This averages at £810 per month. I think this is achievable but time will only tell!

Also want to buy an xbox360 or PS3

Will have £172.50 extra net coming through in september payroll and some profit share in November. Maybe I could use this. Or perhaps ask for vouchers for my birthday

    Go for it.
Use the vouchers to pay for it.

We had all 3 for a short period (Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii).
Got rid of the PS3 and kept the other 2.
We are in our late 30s and we still have fun with ours.

Good to see that you are ahead of target and setting new goals.
  • what was your reason for prefering the 360 over the PS3?

I have positives and negatives to both but just cannot decide!

Good luck, I'm sure you'll do it, particularly considering how well you've both done so far!

Definitely use birthday vouchers for the games!! Can you look at buying a pre-owned one from somewhere like gamestation?
